I got there the following year Tom and yes, General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) shares the runway with the base. I liked working days because during the week, the test pilots would take a 16 up to run it through the acceptance and it was quite a show and it was right over the rwy so I always had a great view.

I'm really disappointed to read a comment like that, and I don't see that as necessary at all. Warwick Carter's model is superb, as are the SkyUnlimited examples, which are fully out-fitted with all of the original cockpit hardware, and are also extremely accurate in reproducing the same 'lines' of the real aircraft (not to mention a whole assortment of Texan/Harvard/SNJ variations). Both productions have some very unique features about them as well. Between them, I can't pick a favorite. Here are some screenshots of the unique SkyUnlimited LT-6 'Mosquito' of the Korean War era:

Although I have Blackburns book in my library ,I've yet to read it. Sounds like that's now on my summer reading list. Strangely enough the Corsair is one plane that takes off a carrier without much trouble,so does the Wildcat but the Hellcat gives me fit's. Speaking of fits I had a total crash of CFS2 last night and had to uninstall it and reinstall,so now I'am rebuilding the whole sim.

Dave, that extension is simply part of the Photobucket link. Through Photobucket, if you want the image to display in the original native size, it has to have that "~original" extension at the end - "original" refers to that fact that the image will be displayed in its original size, rather than a smaller size. This has nothing to do with SOH, and is no 'meaningful act' other than to just have the image display in its proper size.

Thank you Vin for posting this thread! Just a bit less than a month ago I made a post in the FSX forum to mark the anniversary of the day that the 'Spirit of St. Louis' first flew. Amazing to consider that less than a month after its very first flight, Lindbergh was setting off across the Atlantic with it (having first just crossed the United States). The aircraft would be retired almost exactly a year later from that first flight, having only ever been piloted by Charles Lindbergh - with the exception of a short flight that Lindbergh's good friend Bud Gurney made with the aircraft shortly after Lindbergh had returned from the Atlantic flight, so that Bud could see how she handled (Bud had done some barnstorming with Lindbergh in the early 20's (as depicted in the Jimmy Stewart movie)).

Yes, he flew both Corsairs and P-38s on some missions in the South Pacific as a civilian. The (award winning) FG-1D Corsair operated by the Texas Flying Legends Museum pays a bit of homage to that fact, with 'Col. "Slim" Lindbergh' scribed under the canopy (on an otherwise 'standard' Pacific theatre three-tone paint scheme), with three kill markings, representing the number of Japanese aircraft that are believed to have been shot down by Lindbergh. http://www.texasflyinglegends.org/whistling-death-fg-1d Considering Lindbergh's age at the time of WWII, and the general ages of those in the service, he was quite an old guy at the time. Some photos of Lindbergh out in the South Pacific during the war:

Lately I've been practising carrier takeoffs and boy is that frustrating.I put in the "take off from fantail" patch but it doesn't seem to do much good. Some planes will take off just fine ,other like jets and heavely loaded planes stall as soon as you lift off. I have increased the power scalar and that seems to work on some planes ,like the Banshee but others like a loaded down Hellcat just stalls every time. I've gotton to the point where I lift off without any ordance ,then add the ordence after I'am airborn, or I even use slew to get the plane in the air,but that's somewhat of a pain .First you start the engines and hold with brakes(I have CH rudder pedals) then lower flaps then go to settings and disable joystick ,because if you don't and hit Y for slew, the planes goes nuts. Then I hit Y for slew and use the keys for forword then gain height ,then hit come out of slew, hit settings ,enable joystick ,raise the gear, milk up the flaps and your on your way. Not very immersive. Some planes don't even have power scalar in their config file. These are ones I have to use the takeoff without ordance or slew them into the air.Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Taking shape, but it's slow going right now. The AFCAD is a bear because it's so intricate as you can see from these shots. Lots of left over areas from the SAC days that are utilized by the Marine and Navy folks. Right now the 301st area on the North end is where I've spent the most time (naturally, lol), the Navy area is just taking shape as is the Tower and Fire Dept. A lot more to do just in those two areas, then there's the C-130 area to the west of the F-16's, the Bomb Dump farther to the west and then Lockheed Martin across the rwy. It'll be quite awhile before it's ready and with my luck, about the time I finish, someone will announce that they've done Carswell with all custom 3D buildings, individual jets with the correct tail numbers and animated figures that launch and recover the 16's, lol. This is being done using the object libraries for the MAIW packages, so whenever it is done, those that download it will have to have those libraries to see anything.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category FSX Skins Description: This is a repaint for the freeware Neoqb Fokker Dr.1 for FSX. This repaint depicts the Fokker Dr.I Dreidecker reproduction that was built and is expertly flown by Mikael Carlson. Based in Sweden, and registered SE-XXZ, this aircraft is regarded as the most accurate reproduction flying today, utilizing all original plans for and all original type materials throughout its construction. The aircraft took 2-3 years to build, and is powered by an original 110 hp Le Rhone rotary engine. The aircraft, mostly painted in authentic factory finish, sports the serial numbers and markings of Johann Janzen's aircraft, 403/17 (Wk No. 1987), of Jasta 6, when based at Lien St. Amand, February 1918. To check it out, rate it or add comments, visit Fokker Dr.I Dreidecker SE-XXZ.zip The comments you make there will appear in the posts below.

I've gone ahead and uploaded the Mikael Carlson Dr.I repaint. I found a few more things to correct and add since the last screenshots I posted. For instance, the center support struts for the upper wings are the dark green, rather than the light blue. I also added the stencils to the lower surfaces of the wings. A rather cool coincidence about this aircraft, is that the Wk. No., accurate to the specific example it is marked to represent, is 1987 (the year I was born).

don't worry Frank, mine was not a serious attempt at repainting the IIIB, just having fun. Since I fly almost exclusively over Oz, I felt a RAAF bird was lacking. This took about 20 minutes, and was meant only for myself

I can understand the frustration, considering that I use ATC quite a bit (why, I have no idea. . .it's not very good) and wonder why the controller doesn't recognize my airplane. In my case. . .it's ignorance, pure and simple. I just never took the time to understand the config file and how to make it correctly interact with ATC. In the case of developers, both freeware and payware...I have often heard them say that they rarely get to fly for fun anymore because they're always working on the next model and when they are flying it's only to check out the progress of their latest updates and corrections. . .they really aren't concerned with ATC. Looking at folks who do repaints, like SteveB says. . .most are done for free for others to enjoy and making sure that each skin has the proper config information so it shows in the sim is the primary concern. There are more than a few simmers who find the basic ATC in both FS9 and FSX pretty poor really and so they either try to find other ATC addon programs or just put up with what the default ATC gives them. The frustration level is pretty high anyway and so the fact that the controller doesn't say my "type" becomes almost secondary to why the controller insists on getting me to "please expedite your decent to 5000", when I was 20,000 30 seconds ago and I'm in a C-5 Galaxy.

    Hi WH,

Yes that was a pic of me and my daughter when she was less than a year old. Good times. I'm glad you like the Canberras and Sea Hawks and I definitely appreciate the continued interest in them. The new job is usually busy, but I am doing my best to get it under control and get back to proper stuff like modelling! I just got myself a lovely new PC as well so things should only get easier from now.
