Wasn't it testing for the Starfighter?
Rats - why won't anything work properly first time?

Looks like a nose of a plane! Its not the usual suspects as there's no Pitot probe

I'd say it is "Pinoccio", one of several DC-3s modified with F-104 noses (Canada had one for sure, and I believe Germany did as well), used to train F-104 pilots on how to operate the F-104s fire control radar...

Wow, didn't take you very long. Must think of something really difficult next time. Here's the rest of the plane...

How nice! The Dutch used a Fokker F-27 for this.

Uploadinnngggg ......... here and at Flightsim.

The Douglas C-47 NASARR Trainers were ordinary Skytrains fitted with F-104G noses in order to act as navigational school rooms for budding Starfighter pilots (NASARR = North American Radar and Ranging). Among the air forces using them in this function was the German Air Force, which had five (called Nasenbaer/coati), the Canadian Air Force, which had two (called Pinocchio), and the Belgian Air Force. The paint included represents GAF 14+10. This plane was modified to NASARR Trainer status in 1964 and withdrawn from use in 1973.

OK, it's not the prettiest of aircraft, but it's still a very interesting version, thank you, Manfred!
Here a few pics of the Belgian version:

So, with that nose fitted, the C-47 flies just like a F-104 Starfighter?

    Sorry...just kidding.

Great, many thanks, Jan Kees, now we need someone to do the CAF paint as well. Markus, are you there?

JimH, put her in your Starfighter folder and she will do Mach 2 easy!
