Question Questions for UncleTgt and MaskRider...

    Morning, John!

I noticed when installing the Carolines scenery that I was still having some raised areas / flatten issues in a couple of areas around the lagoon. I tried to rectify this by also removing the TRUK9.bgl file (which is stock) from the SCENEDB folder, and now the flatten issues disappeared.

Did I do something wrong, or is that an oddity, or what?

    Good afternoon from the ETO

    Andrew,

The basis was a Rhumba mesh world. There are some excludes which Dick highlighted in his first uploads, & I'm not sure these have been highlighted with all the later website changes.

KDriver also did some sterling work identifying files to remove from a stock install to make them more compatible with newer Rhumba mesh sceneries. I think I included this listing with the New Britain & New Ireland sceneries, probably didn't with the Carolines Scenery. The basic rule is anything with a "9" in the scenedb/world/scenery folder is a LOD 9 file, & is superceded by Rhumbas LOD 8 mesh. It needs to be deactivated. So you were correct to deactivate the Truk9.bgl.

Maybe I need to revisit & update the readmes ... seesh - more work, hey - I thought this was a hobby!

    John,

Never mind Rota, I didn't check carefully enough to make sure I removed the old airfield. Rota is fixed now.

    Good morning,

John, thanks for the help and feedback!

In addition, I am not abandoning the ETO. I want to get this ports package by Talon uploaded along with DEI, then I go aboard a tramp steamer destined for a European Port of either British or French origin.

    John,

I did remove the "9s" from the SCENEDB folder. It also make as big difference on Iwo in MaskRider's Marianas scenery.

    Andrew,

Howabout we upload the text file of excludes as a separate upload into the scenery/mesh directory? That way everyone knows it's part of the job when you're configuring a PTO install that uses Rhumbas mesh.

    John,

Certainly, but I don't know what they are. Who can compile the list?

This text file already appears in my Carolines, New Britain & New Ireland Sceneries.

I suggest it's uploaded as a separate file to the Mesh section seeing as it appears to often be the subject of rhumba mesh questions.

It's an essential step in creating a Rhumba mesh PTO install.

    Rhumba_mesh_bgl_deactivation_list_PTO.zip

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Utilities Add-ons

Description: List of deactivated bgls when using Rhumbas World Mesh - By UncleTgt and kdriver
    ================================================== ====

This is a ready reckoner of all the deactivated bgl files in CFS 2/ SCENEB/WORLD/SCENERY folder. This avoids LOD 9 mesh conflicts & double coastline issues once Rhumbas mesh has been installed.

This list coordinates with the following scenery packages by UncleTgt and Maskrider...

    Aleutians: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=45&id=3805

    Andaman & Nicobar: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=45&id=2184

    Caroline islands: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=45&id=13451

    New Britain: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=45&id=16698

    New Ireland: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=45&id=17782

    Marianas: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=45&id=2783

    DEI 2009: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=45&id=4242

    Rhumbas mesh installed as follows:

    LOD 5 mesh
    LOD 7 Mesh
    LOD 8 mesh

CFS 2 watermasks have been installed, but deactivated, as found to be too "aggressive". As part of Dick's watermask install, he recommends deactivating pacific coastline bgls to avoid conflicts. The relevant part of the readme is reproduced below:

"As the default shorelines, roads and streams will no longer fit, it is recommended to rename their file extension name as OLD to deactivate them.

    Those defaults are located in:

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2\SCENEDB\world\scenery"

and are named as 'pac????p.bgl'. (Rename to 'pac????p.OLD')

In WindowsXP they can be quickly found using the search function of Windows Explorer by searching the folder for '*p.bgl'."

This file Status as of 19 JUN 2012.

Icon22 Reconfigured and new Pacific GSL ports by Talon!

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 - Talon Legacy

Description: This is a consolidation package of GSL Ports released by Talon for the Pacific theatre. In this package, you will find two separate folders which contain the following modifications.

This Post-2008 folder, uploaded in memory of Talon, contains a total of two major Japanese wartime GSL ports that he created for various missions and campaigns that he did over the years, and one American harbor attacked by the Japanese just prior to the Midway raid. The GSL ports found in this folder are Rabaul, Truk, and Dutch Harbor.

One of these GSL ports have not been released before, (Dutch Harbor) and thanks go to Hiede & TheBookie for hanging onto and giving permission to upload this for SOH users. One of the other GSL ports (Rabaul) was modified by Rami to accommodate the updated New Britain scenery by UncleTgt.

This pre-2008 folder, uploaded in memory of Talon, contains a total of nine GSL ports that he created for various missions and campaigns that he did over the years. The GSL ports found in this package include Canton, (China) Hankow, (China) Haiphong, (Indochina) Hong Kong, Kanwaing / Rangoon (Burma) Kure, (Japan) Manila, (Philippines) Port Moresby, (Papua New Guinea) and Taikao. (Formosa)

Two of these GSL ports (Manila and Taikao) have not been released before, and thanks go to both Hiede and TheBookie for hanging onto and giving their permission to upload this for SOH users.

This version includes and replaces the Port Moresby and older ports package in the CFS2 library.

    Good evening,

I wish to thank TheBookie and Hiede for allowing this upload to proceed. I hope you enjoy the revamped and new ports. This replaces the older two ports packages of Talon's in the "legacy" section.

In loving memory of the great Talon, we should all install this one. He really was among the true and gifted artist. May his memory last as long (and more) as CFS.

Talon and I worked hard on the research and details for these a while ago, and I am very glad to see them appearing here in the library due to the efforts of many. The ports of the Pacific are essential for the realism of the sim, and it is great to see these taking their place in our library well done.

Al was quite happy with the way these came out.
