    Stolen Work Part2

So, I was just informed that this kid, Spencer Lever, who has been stealing not just mine but others work... had uploaded my Hornet cockpit to http://www.3dcadbrowser.com/, which is sort of like Turbosquid where people can buy your models.
This dude has been pretty brazen in his fascination with my model and converting it for sale or use in DCS (as DCS: F18C), or to be used with online stunt teams and the like. What's more annoying is that he had asked me quite a while to go to help him learn 3D modeling, as all he knew how to do at the time was modify existing models.

With that knowledge and knowing that he has a penchant for taking other peoples' material, I did a quick search with his name and the website to see what else he might have "borrowed' from others. If anyone recognizes these models or happens to know the authors, PLEASE let me know so I can get them removed from the site!

    My work:

He apparently took this guys money to do a mod for DCS, Jim Blim. He apparently tried to sell his work as well:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3RNPxhX6M4

I know he's also stolen a Hawk model, but I can't find any evidence of that anymore (was on his Facebook page).

Anywho, there's not a whole lot that can be done to stop him. But I will spread the word to ensure other modelers or potential "customers" don't get burned by him. Also, if you're a modeler, try as best you can to keep tabs on your work (nearly impossible, to be sure). An awesome kid on Facebook informed me of this particular event.

Yep, that Hunter is mine! Not the first time either.

That's just wrong on so many levels. I hate to see this happening.

    Hi Friends,
I also found on 3DCadbrowser many 3D models of mine, all Italian WWII tanks and Railroad models (steam locos and passenger cars) I uploaded more than 10 years ago on 3DCafe as freeware (L-6/40, L3-35, FIAT 3000 and Lancia LZM), all these models are uploaded there by someone WITHOUT my authorization, but I don't know if the site offers these models as freeware or ask money for them....

    Dave, MVG,
They removed my model VERY quickly, just got the reply to my request this morning! Shoot them a message to their support if you haven't yet, subject Copywright, and I think they'll hook it up quickly.

Really sorry this happened to you guys. If you have the energy to do it, post on as many forums as you can think of about this kid and what he's done. There's alot of thieves out there, and he may not be as prolific, but he does seem to be one of the most directly confrontational about it.

    Heya mvg,
You have to have a pay account after you use up so many free downloads:
You're using a free account. To download non-free 3D models, please purchase a non-free account or upload 3D models into catalog.
So, other way, someone is making money off of the work.

    Hi Friends,
I just "explored" the 3DBrowser site, I found almost 10 models of mine, some of them are just a little modified, maybe from the "uploader", in every model's page the pic that shows the mesh cannot mask its "origin"....
I found also many "suspect" aircraft, some of them seem to be directly from FS (exported/converted)..... It seems to be here also the Jens Khristensen's Vultee !!!!!

Decompile models and then sell them? Now that's just low.

You are lucky to have your models removed.

I got suckered into trading one model, did a lot of work to port it to Strike Fighters then I found out it was a Kazunori Ito's ripped model. I told the site owner and nothing done. The model is still there and I did not get back the credit for the model. I tried to contact Kazunori Ito's but no luck.

    Just an example

Manuele, those Italian tanks look very nice. Its a pity you never finished them. I think they would have nicely fit in Michael Carr's Afrika Korps scenery (when he finds some to finish this....).

I'm not sure the Bf109 is the one from A2A. The fuselage of the A2A model is a bit more square.

    Cheers,
    Huub

    Hi Huub,
The models I uploaded on 3DCafe (and now on 3dcadbrowser.....GRRRR !!!) were the first 3d models I made with 3DStudio Max (r2), they weren't made for animation, but only for 3d rendering. I completed all these models and used them as "base" for color profiles I published on a modeller magazine here in Greece, however the polygon's count of all these models prohibits their use in a simulation or scenery (more than 150K).

The '109 on the site seems to be very good, I'm sure the mesh derives from an FS application or similar.

One giveaway that the model was ripped is the lack of any canopy glass. The other if you get hold of the model is look at the textures, they are normally in dds format and have 8 letter/numbers, something like this 0ab91d3e.dds
But it seems that there are a few rip tools going around now.

I in no way would advocate such behavior. However, in digital media, where does it end?

    In specific to those concerned about FS models;

If a .mdl is reverse engineered, then the very mesh itself will be compromised. If it is re-exported as another file type, be it .obj, .3ds, .fbx, whatever, it is no longer a .mdl by a significant margin. This isn't copy/paste.

    1. ) The pirated model would need legal documents to prove it's copyright/ownership

    2. )A detailed comparison of subjects would have to be made by an inter-medium to determine that the 'pirated' example is such.

    3. ) And then a legal charge.

How much is it worth? And would you even have the means for step 1?
