Nice story about the restoration of the B29 DOC.

Nice story. I like the looks of the "clipped wing" B-29 in the foto above.

    Cheers,

She is almost flying now. Look here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/b29doc/

This will be the second airworthy B29 in the world. Hopefully a repaint for the virtavia B29 will be made...

Thanks Paul for the Flickr link. Sure glad these kind of people are around. The world deserves to see this beautiful bird fly again. Just think of the experience of seeing her take off for the first time.

Updating B29 Big Time Operator with slightly adjusted bump maps, new metallic colors and new alpha channels. Unfortunately the spinners can only be made shiny by modifying the mdl. If enough DOC details are available I will make her repaint.

    Beautiful!

I'd love to bumpmap this baby in FSX! You see all the bumps on the fuselage? Beautiful!

Still some sections that need polishing, but she already looks gorgeous out in the daylight - especially nice to see everything finally "buttoned-up" (the cowl panels all fitted and the windscreen cap back on). The skins of the main section of the wings and the center section of the fuselage, which was manufactured as one unit, are painted silver, just as that section of the aircraft was finished back in original production and can be seen that way in all of the original factory fresh photos (the trailing and leading edges and everything else was left bare metal). The aircraft did originally have turrets fitted when it was manufactured, and the group does have turrets for it, but it was mentioned a while back that they wouldn't start thinking about doing all the work to fit them until after the aircraft has been flying for a while (the turrets being a very low priority), and to do the work at some point while the aircraft is down for annual inspection/winter maintenance. In its current form, it resembles one of the "Silveplate" B-29's - it's going to be quite a mover, with less drag/weight and the more powerful engines that are fitted (though, like FIFI, which also runs the same engines, power will be kept at lower settings to use only what's needed).

Now really looking forward to the first videos of the engine runs and taxi tests, at which point we'll know it will be just about ready to fly.
