The COOLEST (...ahem...) website I've ever seen

    www.windyty.com

I just wish the winds were in the direction FROM but nonetheless...visually impressive. (Deer in the headlights) Don't forget to change the altitudes and overlay filters for mind blowing visuals... sooo cool!

Apologies if this is old news and I've been living in a cave...

    That is seriously cool.

Intellicast does something like that on their iPad and iPhone apps, but I've never seen it before on a continental scale.

I see what I'm going to be looking at tomorrow instead of getting work done...

what's amazing, is if you zoom in you can click on anywhere and it will show you the weather trend and the forecast..really cool. You can drag the marker anywhere on the planet.

Wow, that is pretty wild! Neat to see it on a global scale.

I want that as a screensaver.

I was using this one http://earth.nullschool.net/#current...6.17,43.10,834 but the one you showed has more stats, I'm switching!

This is a nice find; mesmerizing.
Only thing I'd like is some sort of scales to indicate more precisely what the colors mean.

The higher you go, the more psychedelic it gets. Lovely!

You are probably one of the first visitors on windyty, it's brand new Seems to gain popularity quickly though, even James Fallows wrote an article about it already: http://www.theatlantic.com/technolog...e-seas/383787/

Love James Fallows - got to spend a decent amount of time with him once at a client event. If he says it's cool... then it's cool - which is exactly what I'll tell myself as I sit here staring at the site and getting progressively more hypnotized...

    Hi Folks

    windty.com is a reworking of Cameron Beccario's http://earth.nullschool.net

    windty is an nice implementation,
particularly the metars, and maps at higher zoom levels.

It's a pity James Fallows gives Ivo all the credit.
He'd obviously not bothered reading windty's info panel.

Select an overlay, and a key displays at the middle of the right hand edge.
    Click it to switch units.

    Thanks for that nice finding!!!

@BASys - agree that Fallows should have mentioned the original site. You ought to send him a note or post a comment - he's usually pretty responsive to that kind of thing.

Thanks. It's almost invisible to me unless I place the mouse hand directly over it. But I also discovered that if I mouse over a specific spot and left click, a balloon pops up with all sorts of info.
