After a cuppa joe and a sandwich, we're back on the flight deck. No rest for the weary.

Made it safe to SPHZ. It's getting interesting now. I couldn't fly a direct route to SPHZ. That was obvious as soon as I took off from SPJB and saw the white tipped mountains in the direction I wanted to go. A slightly west of track plan seemed to look promising, but I was almost to the coast before I saw what looked like a low enough valley/pass, or whatever, that would, if it didn't end up in a giant granite wall, get me where I needed to go. It did. Got lucky. Fun landing too. I was too high to do a straight in to 16, so we flew over the field to setup for a 34 approach. Went a ways south, descending. Popped over a hill, pulled the yoke against the seat, bringing the Douglas down to gear speed, dropped em wheels, pushed the nose over, went around the hill, turning, dropped the flaps, lined up, bam, just like Gann!

Made it to SPNC. That was an interesting flight. Had to fly south down the valley for quite a ways before I found a way through the mounatins east towards SPNC. Then upon reaching the destination, I couldn't decide which way made for a safer descent into the valley, and which runway seemed better. Finally went north to land on 25. Worked out ok. Pics show the DC-2 making her way through Breakheart Pass, then final approach to SPNC. Took me an hour to cover 89 miles. Good grief!

Short uneventful flight to SPVI. Found the airport right where it was supposed to be, a smidgen north of the big lake.

Made it down to the coast at SPLP. Fun flight. I was going to zig south until I found hills low enough to get over, but at the last moment I saw what looked like a sweet pass right through, headed north-west-ish. Lucky for me it worked. Then on the other side of the hills there was weather, which is to be expected on the "weather-side" of a giant huge mountain range. I didn't want to let down too soon on account of I couldn't actually see the granite anymore (STENDECK!) At some point I saw I was over the ocean. Figured it was safe to let down, then! Had a heck of a time finding the airport in the coastal fog, too.

Well it's a good thing this plane comes wth a retractable undercarraige, or I would surely have bounced the wheels off a couple of mountain tops along way during this leg. Started out on the coast, at Las Palmas, and headed east. Of course the weather on the coast was nasty, as usual. It's a strange feeling climbing out towards the east at an ear-popping 500 FPM, completely shrouded in thick clouds, knowing there is a 15,000 foot (at least) wall ahead somewhere, lurking in the gloom... Worked out ok, since I didn't bump into anything. Kodaks show 1) climb out from Las Palmas, 2) What sort of bizzare geologic forces are at work here? 3) Fianl approach to SPHO.

Milk run to SPZO completed. Decided to go by way of the NDB station at Andahuaylas in order to avoid the big hills. Nice long runway at SPZO with minimal obstacles.

Made it to SPNP. A bit of a tricky approach due to terrain "issues", but the weather was clear and the runway long, so that helped.
