    F-100 Paint Kit

A while back Jason Sparkes did a couple of awesome repaints for the donationware F-100C. I was wondering if he had posted a paint kit anywhere for this before I have a go at doing my own.

    Best regards

    DaveQ

Keep us in the loop. Warchild was kind enough to have a look at the flight dynamics on the F-100 and made some really good recommendations. It flies much better now; still testing its capabilities and handling in formation -- but it is good.

Will post up the FDE when we have something concrete. It is still a good bird.

Wow, didn't realize Pam was giving it her expertise. . .that's awesome, she definitely knows her stuff. Let us know when you have something to show. I'm flying the F-100 almost every day.:salute:

Still appreciate your input Pam. The Donationware F-100 has definitely been reborn in FSX with the help of a lot of folks.:salute:

I'm re-discovering the Hun in FSX and it's a great aircraft to fly (is the current FDE the one being referred to in this thread??) But does anyone know where I can find a set of airframe maintenance instructions for it? I'm trying to do the stencilling work to make a 2048 base set for some natural metal repaints. I found one for the naval F-4s from Navair but can't remember the website.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Very much a WIP, this is 55-2918 of the 306th TFS out of Incerlik, Turkey in 1964. Painted in ADC grey apparently.

So far I've done one side.....! Still the other should be easier but I've not touched the wings!! The paint is based on Jason Sparkes' 56-2306 with some help from Falcon409's own paint kit (many thanks Ed). In 2048 'hi-def'; many of the maintenance stencils are guesswork I'm afraid.

    Three Skins Posted at last!

I've just put three new 2048 x 2048 texture sets up for the SOH Donationware F-100D here and at Flightsim. They represent 55-2918 when with the 458th FDS at Tinker AFB OK in the late 1950's, the same bird operating out of Incirlik in Turkey in 1964 with the 306th TFS, and 56-2986 of the 20th TFW from RAF Lakenheath in 1963. Ed Wells (Falcon409) very kindly gave permission for the use of some of his excellent paint kit and Jason Sparkes of UKMIL gave permission for me to use parts of his excellent repaint of 56-3206 from the 49th TFW - many thanks both!

I'm currently working on an SEA camo base kit and went to Coventry yesterday to photograph their Super Sabre for more detail. I've also blended in shots of the burnt titanium AB cans to give the textures a more realistic look. Hope you enjoy them!

Oh and BTW. Thanks to all concerned for a lovely old bird (bit like the missus)!!!

This looks fantastic, thanks for the great work.

As for the FDE -- still a work in progress. Pam tinkered with it some and gave me some great suggestions for how to improve it -- and it is much improved, but I am not yet satisfied with it.

I've recently moved into a new house and have not found the time to thoroughly fly and edit the FDE. Hoping to get some work done on it in the next 3 weeks.

    Paints look fantastic.

You know what, I wonder if those 2048 textures could be mapped to my part finshed FSx model?, with the FDE being overhauled and the textures, its only a small step to add a new mdl in the package as well, new VC too, using existing maps and layouts would make all the previous textures match too, all be it in 1024 scale, but the new 2048 could bring a rash of more detailed ones. Lots of legality to resolve, whos done what and what permission exist and where, textures, mdl, FDE, who will allow what etc, but it should be possible to accomplish. It'd certainly speed up texture placement and allow what limited time I have to concentrate on the details....hmm food for thought, gonna drag the old bird from warm storage and fire up Max and see whats what, over 18 months since I looed at the mesh.

    Best

Michael, this sounds GREAT (wasn't that the mesh which was supposed to be used for a Razbam project?), I would be glad to help, please let me know what you need. Me and Ed did the Portover for FSX Acceleration last year:

Classic Warbirds Design Team/SOH Donationware F-100D Super Sabre for FSX/A

    cheers, Henk.

The project was started in conjunction with Razbam, when I gave it up it was only fair it went to them, since then Ron has held it in storage for me (which I didn't know until recently...such a nice chap), its my mesh, Razbam's project, thus by rights they also have the say so on further progress, they may wish to retain it for a (initially envisaged) payware project (that won't be me for the foreseeable future) or release it as donation ware (I'll progress it as best I can in the limited time I have available), I'm happy either way.

I've given away four projects in the past, not something I'm proud about, hence my reticence to embark on future joint projects, once released I release all rights and receive no further gain or control over the mesh, they belong to the other party and are theres to do with as they wish, it is also agreed that the mesh or another of the same type will not be forthcoming commercially, donation or free from my desk top until the original has had its place in the environment. Ron is currently the only associate who has placed the mesh in storage and being the gentleman that he is, flatly refused to let anyone but me touch it, so by rights he will have to give his blessing, and this dialog is not designed or intended as leverage in any shape or form to pressure Ron into a situation he is not 100% happy with. I am awaiting his PM on this matter and a few others we have been discussing over the months when he awakes, so we will see what we will see .

Hope that makes sense, no promises, just fleshing out some options .

    Kindest

    Michael

Oouch, can you warn me next time before you yell in my ear LOL.

Seriously, I do not have a copy of the current donation ware item, but looking at screen shots it looks pretty clean and accurate in shape, so it should be a simple matter to blend over the textures onto the new mesh, some areas will need adjusting, almost certainly any panel lines surrounding moving parts will probably not line up, but they should not be out by far and if all it needs are some panel lines moved then thats a huge gain in time.

It'll also depend on the style of mapping, I tend to run with four parts for the fuselage, top, LH, RH and belly, some run with wrapped LH, RH but until I see the others it'll be hard to judge. It has got to be one of the easiest aircraft shapes to map and paste textures onto. Internal areas may need remapping or just new textures but for the majority of the exterior I cannot see any reason why the mesh cannot be mapped to the existing texture formats.

It is working backward, normally planes are mapped and then textured, but it is possible to go the other way, with a little lateral thought, I hope .

The only area of the current model that is a bit out of wack is the fin. When trying to position the tail code I noticed some mis-alignment with the notch in the fin. Also the fin is quite thick. Other than that the model is excellent if lacking some fine detail you might expect on the best FSX payware (e.g. the cannon ports and other small recesses).

    My tuppence worth...!
