    Prizes

    Prizes.

Again, we want to allocate the prizes in each Race. The idea is to "spread the glory" around -- the fast planes cannot win everything. We give a Gold, Silver, and Bronze prize for each race.

Pilots get to choose their race by the order of Race Time in each Class. Here is the order of finish in the Race Time:

    • Golden Age: Vicious, Bry Rosier, arvoo, BuzzBee, MM, Moses03, Spookster67, srgalahad, Great Ozzie, Highmike, mickj300, EdGeneer, donlimpio, Willy, ...
    • Modern Age: EasyEd, Great Ozzie, Team Viagara, jkcook28, Team Four, Highmike, MM, Bry Rosier, Willy, arvoo, AVSIM Goose.

Vicious has first choice in the Golden Age and picks the Speed Race. So the standings at the moment are:

Golden Age Speed Race: Vicious (Gold)

    Golden Age Handicap Race:

    Moderna Age Speed Race:

    Modern Age Handicap Race:

Next choices are Bry Rosier (Golden Age) and EasyEd (Modern Age). Gentlemen, what is your pleasure?

    A little clarification here.

For each class (Golden Age or Modern Age) each pilot can choose to be ranked in the Speed Race or the Handicap Race for that Class.

Pilots make their choices in the order of their Race Time finish. When Tom (Vicious) chose to be ranked in the Golden Age Speed Race, he was assured of finishing first in that race. Had he instead chosen the Handicap Race, he would have likely ended up in second place. That is because we can all guess that Martin (Spookster67) will eventually choose to be listed in the Golden Age Handicap Race. Because Martin has the fastest Handicap Time, he would earn a Gold Medal over Tom (Vicious).

Just above, Bry had a choice and selected the Golden Age Speed Race for the Silver medal. (Had he chosen Handicap, his time would be eclipsed by several other pilots who are likely to choose Handicap as well.) The eventual effect of his choice would depend on the choices of the rest of the field.

When you make your choices, you will want to think ahead about how the other pilots will choose. (In the Handicap Races, you may find yourself temporarily a prize winner but be later displaced by another pilot who had a better time than you.)

This isn't too complicated--you can pretty much figure out what the other guys will do by looking at the order of finish in the Race and Handicap Times. The only questions are for those pilots who finished very high in both the Speed and Handicap Races. They will want to see what others choose before they make their choices.

Hence, the sequenced decision about the Race in which you want to be classified.

I'd like to be ranked In the Golden Age Speed Race please

Well since Rob is face down in the sand on a Mexican beach somewhere and Dave said pick it, speaking for Team Viagra, we choose Silver in MA Speed Race.

Following up that (as pick four), I'll choose for myself Silver in MA Handicap in C-310.

    Hope this is accurate.

In the Modern Age class, I guess that brings us to Team Four (AspireFSX). We'll be very happy to take Bronze in the Speed Race, thanks.

Unfortunately not Mike, as there are several others above you in the Handicap times in Eamonns list, for example Bry could take it when it's his pick. But congrats anyway..!

To speed matters along, MM will also pick Modern Age Handicap--but that will not be prize-winning. The next choice in the Modern Age is Bry who, by picking "Handicap" will win the Bronze medal in the Modern Age Handicap Race.

OK. To expedite matters, we're going to make the "obvious" decisions by a fixed rule. For each pilot, we will make the "choice" to be ranked as highly as possible in one of the two Races--picking the Speed Race over the Handicap Race when there is a tie. This sequence continues until all prizes are filled. The remaining choices are:

    Golden Age
    BuzzBee--Speed Race
    MM--Handicap Race
    Moses03--Speed Race
    Spookster67--Handicap Race
    srgalahad--Handicap Race
    Great Ozzie--Handicap Race

    Modern Age
    Bry Rosier--Handicap Race

If you want to make another choice, please indicate so quickly. Barring changes, we have the following final results for the Race Prizes.

Prizes for the 2009 London Melbourne Challenge

Golden Age Speed Race: Vicious (Gold), Bry Rosier (Silver), arvoo (Bronze)

Golden Age Handicap Race: Spookster (Gold), Great Ozzie (Silver), MM (Bronze)

Modern Age Speed Race: EasyEd (Gold), Team Viagra (Silver), Team Four (Bronze)

Modern Age Handicap Race: Great Ozzie (Gold), jkcook (Silver), Bry Rosier (Bronze)

Congratulations to Tom, Martin, Ed and Rob for their wins.
    Well done.

    Si! Team Viagra has picked!

and I, naturally will be glad to be counted in the GA Handicap Division
Forgive me if I do not stand for the ovations...

I'm actually quite pleased how well the old, worn CR-1 freeware Beech 17 stood up to the test of 10,300 grueling miles of flying. Maybe the next one will be even better, no?

    From me too.

I got caught by real world and did not get time to finish.

Many thanks to Race Commitee, helpers and competitors.

I allways enjoy racing with/against you and learns a lot.

See you all in february, wherever the RTW Race Commitee decides, we shall start.
