    Thumbnail maker

    I used to have a program that worked inside FSX to make thumbnails for texture files. Can't remember where I got it. Anybody know where I can find it?

    For those that like to make your own JPG's for FS, you can try this little workflow route;

    * Take a screenshot
    * Open with graphics program
    * Create new file (white usually) in size 1000 X 500 (width x height)
    * Copy paste the white rectangle onto the top of the screenshot
    (Make sure its a layer, hovering)
    * Make white rectangle 50% transparent
    * Center over the plane
    * Reduce size of rectangle (holding down Shift key to maintain width/height uniformity)
    * Make the white rectangle a selection area (in Photoshop, hold Control key and click on Layer icon of white rectangle)
    * Click to hide top white rectangle layer, and hit Crop
    * Next, flatten all layers
    * Resize to 256 X 128 size pixels
    * Save as a JPG

    Done..

    Seems like alot of work but for those that want your own screenshots, this can take you perhaps 30 seconds to do. Goes by fairly fast once you know what you are doing.

    (Try doing 30 of these, lol... eeeks!)

    Henry,

    I have Photoshop 6.0. I dont think I have that, unless you mean the layers animation thing that you can save in TIF format (or something like that)..

    I wonder if you can have a multi view thumbnail in FSX? If it states the JPG format, perhaps this means you can have several formats for use in the selection window?

    hmmm...

    What H is refering to is recording what you are doing above, and playing it back on any file you wish, you can even assign a hot key. The problem being, centring the rectangle on the plane, this way would move the rectangle to the same place you did when you recorded,regardless of pic. And Yup you can do it in 3, 4, 5, 6..... maybe even before 3, dunno though.

    I used to use autothumbnail and another one that escapes me. I found that the easest way to is to use the "v" key and it takes a snapshot of whatever is on your desktop.

    Re that Autothumbnail prog, is there an issue with it working in Vista 64? I used it before with XP 32 and it was fine, but in my Vista it fails to even show up in the FSX menu.

    autothumbnail is a hell of a lot easier, set your view up in fsx, go up to the menu, tools, autothumb, current texture only ...... done, 1 thumbnail ready to go :d
    yes i know i cant spell half the time! Thank you kindly to those few who pointed that out

    The only problem is it also records the open menu tree in the picture.

    It would be nice if it worked from the aircraft preview screen rather than in game.

    Bill, I have the same version of Photoshop. You can record a sequence of actions and replay it. Go to the "Actions" palette, click on the "new" icon (page with corner upturned), then record. It's the same as any other macro recorder (e.g., the one in Microsoft Word). I've used it for making thumbnails -- works perfectly.

    Where is the Tools menu

    I have installed the SDK from Acceleration, I still cannot find the Tools menu. I know I am overlooking something basic, but what is it?

    Thanks

    Stiz is right. You have to 'activate' various tools. This is done in their cfgs. My apologies as I do not remember anymore how its done. I ended up not being able to get FSX Tools to run in FSX on my last two computers. After two weeks on each computer trying to get it to work, I just let it go.

    Perhaps someone else knows how to get them running and with better success.
