I have a question about the war time TBF Avenger’s Tail hook. I think the internal version was first, but I’m not sure, so which version was build most and when? And are there any good pictures of the internal version?

Hi Wolfi,
I have a publication with some fairly good information. Should be easy to scan it. Give me a couple of days and I can send it to you.
There is several detailed drawings that should help.
Dave
That would be great, thanks’ in advance

....found these, maybe they will help. In the second reference (detail_page-2.asp with link to page 1 gives a history of the versions of the TBF) at the end of the fifth paragraph(pg.2) it states that the Internal came first with external on later models.

Wolfi,
you are not going to surprise us all with a new Avenger, are you? ........
Cheers!

Stef,
I think you'll find the differences between the US & UK models are significant ...
I thought Mrs. Peel (Diana Rigg) from the original UK Avengers was HOT!

...did read lately that there was a problem with the different models on the handles for flaps etc. IIRC one mod designed a stronger spring that almost made the pilot take his hands off the stick to pull the handle.
Another was a interesting fact as the Japanese Army planes had a different throttle control than the Navy. The Army used the continental design (I believe)which were pull to go and the the Navy initially were designed pull to stop. Caused a lot of problems when the pilots had to cross seat to different planes later in the war as happened around Leyte etc.
I did a convert of the TBF to a british model. All I did to it was remove the lower gun and add bubble windows to the side. The bubble windows can be removed and the lower gun added back in and you will have it convered back to a US model. It already un-mirrored and set up for damge and breaking part logic. I can upload it if some one wants it.
