Adding visual counters to downloads

I am getting old and febble, just can't remember things. Does anyone know the script for me to add visual counters ( visitors can see when on the page) to downloads. I had them on my old site but don't remember what I did.

For us that is a part of the forum software package. I would not know how to program that to work from scratch.
