MH-60R's take a dip in a lake in California.

This is the most rediculous thing I have ever seen. Working on these aircraft everyday I am suprised this is the first I have heard about it. It looks like they lost ground effect, and subsequently tail rotor authority and spun into the water? It seems abnormal for me that they would go into a spin like that.. cause the AFCS cannot just take control the yaw channel as it only makes trim inputs which are slight... I am just appalled, and cannot believe today is the first I have heard about it.. Is a good thing they are all ok, and really hope the investigation sheds some light as to what happened. These aircraft have only been in the fleet for around a year now, and we just started getting ours at my command a few months ago..

Navy. They were navy pilots. Emphasis on "were". I doubt the USN is going to take too kindly to a pair of their helo pilots doing this sort of stunt.

Bet they find their way to being onboard a ship if they stay in.

The way the Navy is processing people out these days who knows... I just know I would hate to be standing in front of my CO trying to explain it.. I just wonder if the black box/computers will be able to shed any kind of light on the incident.. Cause these aircraft practically record everything that is done in them.

Yep, I saw it a couple days ago and just shook my head. I'm holding out hope that there is some unexplained good reason for this stunt, because I hate to imagine that a few well educated Naval Aviators would put their heads together and consider something that appears to be this stupid.

Stupid stunts like this are more common than you think. I've heard some doozies from the military guys I fly with.
