setting up flights in fsx accel - some carrier ops questions

I want to set up some carrier based flights to fly to & from the beach in FSX acceleration... and so some questions.

    1. I see that I can select US Navy as a state in the flight planner drop-down menu, and it has one selection, the USS Reagan off San Diego.... is there a way to set this up so we can select the Reagan in other locations, so that it will show up in the flight planner as an airfield (complete with VOR and NDB freqs, etc)?

    2. I am aware of the voyage schedules shown below for moving AI carriers http://www.simtours.net/defaultaircraftcarrier.php and I wanted to know if these moving AI carriers had working beacons or VORs or something to help navigate out to them.

    3. Can I start off a mission on one of these moving carriers? http://www.simtours.net/defaultaircraftcarrier.php How to do that?

I have AI carriers by Lamont Clark, which is simply awesome, and I have the boat traffic utility, learning to use it. But again, I don't see a way to create a flight that allows me to start on deck someplace. Do I have to figure out to build a dedicated mission in order to do that? :isadizzy:

Holy Cow, that is good gouge!!! I do have all that stuff installed, I guess I could try it that way. Still don't know much about actually using the SDKs, just the AI carriers 2 (Clark is brilliant). Running macros would help a lot, I suppose, once you all the lat/long data worked out.

Actually I think I am getting close to learning how to build a carrier launch mission, using existing missions as templates. So far I have managed to respot the carrier and some of escort ships, and still keep the aircraft showing up on deck ready to pull onto the cats. Good progress for one day. Still pretty new at this, and there is a heckuva a lot to learn.

    Thanks for the help --:ernae:

David, you are the Man! :ernae:

Haven't gotten to the rest of these downloads (already had Lamont Clarks AI Carriers2), still blown away by the carrier tracks downloads. Just what I was looking for. Thanks.

I am really unable to get the slew function to work right -- easy enough to position oneself on deck, but the full afterburner problem coming out of slew mode is just too much to deal with. I have better luck just editing the position of the aircraft carrier in the flight editor tool. I've been having a blast with this all week!

For the time being I'm making progress learning to build missions, trying to master the object placement tool. I seem to be having difficulty placing objects -- my Point of View (POV) is spinning wildly out of control, don't know what is causing this. Will search other threads.

Here are excerpts of my notes from my testing of this approach:

"After getting the aircraft on the CVN deck and BEFORE exiting PAUSE mode,
you need to enter SLEW mode ( Y key )"

"When in SLEW mode, now UN-PAUSE the sim. You should hopefully remain on the deck.
Now you can exit SLEW mode ( re-enable controllers if necessary )"

I think I recall it also helped to have throttles at idle and parking brake set BEFORE
you go to "Pause" and reposition the aircraft. FSX has a mind of its own sometimes

Heh heh... attention to detail recruit! I'll try again with the Slew-Unpause-Unslew commands in this order.

The part about the throttle and brakes I did get - that was intuitive!

The problem with the object placement tool just went away, not sure what that was about. I will continue to try to learn mission building as well -- guess will learn all this in parallel.

    Thanks again!

Ripcord, are you the boys of 60 Rip or someone else?

If someone else then please excuse my asking and welcome to SOH.

I am Ripcord from the Janes F/A-18 community, built a couple campaigns for that sim, or tried to anyway. Definately different guy from the one you are thinking of. But thanks for the welcome. This is a nice forum, helpful folks here doing some amazing stuff. :salute:

I am using Jim Kiers FSX Mission Editor and really loving life. Also getting thru the SDK tutorials to learn how it all fits together, making progress. Able to get my plane onto the carrier to fly to the beach, now working on flying from the beach out to the carrier, which is much easier. Except perhaps finding it -- do these AI carriers have any kind of TACAN or Navaids? If not, is there anyway way to add them?

In Flight Deck by Abacus, they went in and set up the carrier as a working ATC at preset locations. That isn't optimum certainly, but it is cool to be able to navigate to the boat and call up the ATC when you get there. There has to be some way to do this, either with AI carriers or building it into a mission.

    Any insights?

I don't know about adding; the HUD described here (which can be added to many planes, including the Acceleration Hornet) can tune to the Nimitz and the default Acceleration carrier: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...ad.php?t=27078. More info on this here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...t=26753&page=2

OK then, thanks for taking the time to answer and welcome again!

    David,

I did BTW get that Tacan/ILS feature to work in Acceleration. Not sure what the problem was last night but seems to be working fine now. Once again, thanks for the good gouge. :ernae:

OK perhaps one more question in this thread -- which already includes a lot of good info here.

In addtion to the FSX acceleration FA-18, and Dino's F-14 and T-45, what addition aircraft do we have out there that will work with these carriers?

By that I mean which ones will use the proper animations to connect to the launch bar on the cats, and allow the player to activate the launch assist function? AFAIK not just any old FSX aircraft will do those animations?

Wondering if there are any other FSX Acceleration-ready naval aircraft out there...

Does the Flight Deck 6 series work with FSX Acceleration carriers? Anybody using that?

    Ripcord

EDIT: please disregard -- found my answer over at fsdeveloper.com
Evidently any aircraft can be adapted for cat shots by editing the aircraft.cfg file.

For whatever reason I am having a problem figuring out how to use this marker tool that Lamont posted..... although I see James Chams went through and modifed a dozen or so aircraft to work with FSX Accleration carriers. Is there somebody that can give me a quick and dirty lesson on this?

James I do have TeamSpeak, or I did have it. I have not installed on the new rig I am using, but will do so. Thank you much for your response.
