    Alternative Defrag utility?

Last night I finally remembered to run a defrag on my C drive...it was 49% fragmented :isadizzy:. I shut down my A/V before running the defrag, but it still took about 7 hours (I have a 160 GIG IDE as my C drive, 98 Gig free out of 144 Gig available). Is there a faster/better defrag utility out there....and free is the price range I am looking for.

I like Diskeeper and have been using it for the last 4 or 5 years. They have great customer support too. Most of the third party defragger are nice software addons. I wonder why it took so long to defrag your hard drive, If it was a one or two TB hard drive I could understand but 160 gig is small.

I've been very pleased with Iobit, far better than than the crappy defrag utility that MS includes with Windows.
My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

I hate the MS default defrag program. It's slow and not very informative. It's junk and as soon as I got my newest rig I downloaded quite a few of these programs and tried them out. I think these two are the best IMHO.

My favorite free defrag program is defraggler. It is visually intriguing because it shows what is being defragged. It seems fairly quick and has some extra options not seen in others, namely freespace defrag. I'm not sure what that really does but is an option. I believe you can even defrag certain files or folders of your choice. It's worth checking out.

You should also consider Smart Defrag. It continuously defrags your computer as needed. In other words it runs in the background and defrags as you do other stuff. That means your computer never gets past a few % fragmented unless you turn it off. I see someone else mentioned this one, by Iobit. It's pretty good and takes the pressure off the the computer owner to remember regular maintenance.

I have both installed and use both regularly.
