I'm happy to hand over to Dan - having a bit of a hectic weekend, and off next week to Denmark

  2. #8352
    Thanks, gents.
Indeed I chanced to recognize Ken Razak's creation.

The next offering is a real twin:

Hot day in Texas, as we are off to the pool with the kids. Here is a large prototype to ponder in the meantime...

With her twin tail, 1142 is much more elegant than the single-tail version.

Now if I'd looked a bit further down the wiki page I would have seen that picture......hmmmm

    The nod goes to DHC2.

What looks to be an auxiliary fin on top is actually another plane parked behind.

Dan knew the aircraft but didn't officially spell it out (the accounting dept has guidelines).

    And so it should.
I did not give the answer 1st to let everyone enjoy the challenge, and second because I would not have a good challenge of my own to offer in turn, and I'd feel bad torpedoing your offering only to declare open house once more.

    The 1st B-32 was a beauty.

    Congrats to DHC2pilot.

    Hello everybody!
This must be a russian fellow judging by the czarist uniforms! Maybe Ilyia Mouromets (apologies for spelling) of the Imperatorskij voenno-vozdušnyj flot?

Its most probably the famous Ilya Vityaz also and perhaps better know, under the name of its designer Sikorsky S-11. The Ilyia Mourometz (Sikorsky S-22 was based on this design.

    Cheers,
    Huub

  14. #8364
The Ilya Vityaz it is, however it's 'official' designation was the S-21. The S-11 was a single engine monoplane. Over to you Huub.

Sorry DHC2 Pilot, that was a typo.

But here is an aircraft which looks like it comes straight from the movie "Those magnificent men in their flying machines".

    Good luck!

    What a rarity!
I believe this is the Henry Farman bipe that was fitted with Bronislawski's stabilizator planes.

  17. #8367
    What is the word Huub?

  18. #8368
I hope all is well with Huub, and that it's good events that kept him out.
Unfortunately with this delay I will no longer be able to run the next challenge. I'll have little net access the next 24h or so.
So, when Huub confirms, open house please.

A Farman would have been far too easy. The design is 100% based on a Farman, but the number of added control surfaces should have given you a clue. It is an attempt by Boleslaw Bronislawski to improve the controls without infringing Wright patents.

The official name for the aircraft is Bronislawski biplane one and considered to be a Polish aircraft, however Bronislawski worked in France.

So Dan was right! Sadly he can't provide a new challenge so the next mystery can be posted by anyone who feels like it.

    Cheers,
    Huub

A search for the Transavia Airtruk in the background led to the Danmarks Flygmuseum in Stauning (A long way from Australia!), and a search for their website led me to the HT-1 aka Hollschmidt 222.
Powered by two VW 1200 engines apparently, but my Danish is not that great..

I like a good bit of detective work, Ferry, and you nailed it. A visit to the superb Danish museum will be illustrated in the Photo forum shortly.........

    Yes it is.

    Too easy I mean, not a BT-19.
