OLD Hobbyist Spray Outfit (VERY LARGE PICS)

I had an old timer give me this Hobbyist Professional Spray Outfit one day about 25 years ago. He told me to hang onto it, that it was fairly rare.

The electric motor is not original

Has anyone ever saw one?

How old is it?

Is there possibly anywhere I might be able find out any information? ( I tried Google with every description I could think of )

KJ Miller is still in business...relocated to Elkhart Indiana (just around the bend from Chi-town) sometime in the late 60s. They used to offer commercial and home/hobbyist furniture finishing products....pretty much just commercial plastic/rubber molding from what I can find in modern biz directories.

That compressor you've got was the power source for an external mix spray gun (like an overgrown airbrush). I'm not 100% sure that they made it, but they did at least market it with their name. They turn up on eBay and at flea markets every now and then. I've seen a couple of them up here in ND & SD. It should have a much smaller open-frame motor (like an old sewing machine motor). As for the age...all I can guess is sometime in the mid-60s or earlier.

I purchased a Miller around 1986.

Single piston with a pressure switch that cut in when I stopped spraying.
Noisy bloody device, best way to use it was to fill a pressure vessel and it only cut in as the tank emptied.

Very reliable compared to a Binks or Pasche diaphram compressor, or at least, the motor and compressor was, the mounting and fittings were plastic junk that fell apart!

I'm almost certain the electric motor was an off the shelf sewing machine model, as it used to break the vee-belts with monotonous regularity and I replaced them with monotonous regularity using sewing machine belts!

I gave up on it when I started going 'Pro'.........................bought a decent size 'Industrial' unit which is dead quiet and never breaks into a sweat.
Interesting old piece of kit just the same.
Probably make a good door-stop ............
