Brawn GP’s Rubens Barrichello has been handed a penalty by the Sepang race stewards after his car needed a new gearbox following Friday practice for this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix. Barrichello will drop five places on the grid as a result of the change.
The Brazilian covered 22 laps in the morning to finish fourth and completed a further 37 laps on his way to sixth in the timesheets in the afternoon, without suffering any noticeable problems in his BG001.
This season the regulations state that gearboxes must last four race weekends.

Well .........IIRC............:friday:...............we had a great time and it seems everyone else of the more senior citizens did as well.
Some of the younger generation seemed a bit confused at first but they soon got into it.
Maybe 'Status Quo' could make the show next season?
That would be worth putting up with the GP Circus.

PS:Eric Clapton concert earlier in March was out-bloody-standing!!

I guess most teams out of the top ten have filled up their cars to have a flexible strategy in case of rain tomorrow. Most rain in Malaysia falls between 16:00 and 18:00, the race starts at 17:00..
Interesting: Brawn GP have not tested an inch on a wet track this season.

Interesting: Apparently Ferrari thought Massa's time was good enough to get him into Q2 so they didn't sent him out during the last few minutes.....

In those conditions, hero to zero in 2 laps.

Poor Kimi, running around in 2 minutes or so, destroying his tyres, while everyone else was posting 1m 30's.

    As Martin Brundle said:
Make sure you are always on the right tyres, no matter how many pit stops it takes.

Timo Glock proved the point, didn't he?

    Hey All,

I didn't see the race as it was blacked out here in Canada during the day however if I had been up at 3AM last night I coulda seen it. I do know it was rain shortened and my Panasonic Toy team came 3 and 4 which is just fine.

Sounds like Kimi loused up and did the KERS system help anybody?

If ever I needed to come up with an argument for 1) no 'late race starts' and 2) 'regional weather conditions and their effect' this farce would be perfect.
During my time in Malaya and Timor it rained every day from 14.00 to 20.00 during the 'wet' and poured down from 14.00 until 22.00 (if it stopped at all!) during the Monsoon season.
There is a brief gap in the weather when it is hot (very hot!) and dry, but as that's around mid-year it would clash with the European rounds .....
    Another Bernie TV inspired cock-up!!!

And FTR: the MotoGP riders simply come in and change to their 'wet' bikes and keep racing, even under these conditions.

But the MotoGP round will be run the following day, unlike the F1 circus who bug out ASAP!

Very good reason for NOT running any 'night races' in MotoGP or F1.
Problems with reflected glare off the wet surface and poor visibility aside, the cooler temperatures and fickle wind mean no drying out of the circuit even if the rain ceases.
And it supposedly only rains some six days each year in Qatar!!!!

Yes, and all the drivers and teams are very happy that they will have to rebook all their hotels and flights.. Talk about cost reduction!

BTW the Dutch commentator talked about only 6,500 spectators; did I hear that right..??

I seem to remember earlier days when both CART & F1 would race under wet conditions that in today's world, would bring out the safety car....
