I spy the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum! I went for a Harvard flight there about 4 years ago and a Chipmunk also doing a ride pulled up on our wing once we got to altitude. Good times!

Oh, this screenshot must really evoke the memories then! That is a great museum. I enjoyed going there now and again when I lived in Mississauga. Bit far to go now I'm on the prairies!

    Historic Chipmunk repaint needed

This one has to be represented by a talented re-painter. Used in a round-the-world flight attempt by the RAF.

Great shot! That's my back yard! I've been visiting Hamilton airport all my life, growing up around here. My dad lead Air Cadets here when the wartime buildings still stood, being former No. 424 Sqn RCAF. I got to watch them rebuild the Lancaster here from scratch, and fly it for the first time. So many great airshows too! Yes this is SimAddons airport, I have it too, Ralf does good stuff. Did you get the latest version with all the warbirds out on the tarmac?

Have you picked up a copy of the new book for the Canadian Warplane Heritages 50th anniversary? Highly recommend it if you haven't. I had a hard time setting my copy down once it came in the mail. To keep this relevant to the thread there is lots of Chipmunk content to boot!https://www.warplane.com/gift-shop/b...-heritage.aspx

You are the second person to mention this book to me.. Hmm... Must be a hint. Now, have you got the book "Chipmunk - The Poor man's Spitfire"? It is 440 pages of the Chippy!! I bought it about seven years ago, and not sure if it is still in print. Amazon lists a used copy at $199 Cdn https://www.amazon.ca/Havilland-Cana.../dp/0981254403 I think I bought it new at around $80.

Appreciate the heads up! I found the books webpage and was able to order it directly there for $90. Also thinking I may have to book a ride in the CWH Chipmunk later this year. Been slowly working through their offerings having done the Harvard, Norseman, Beech 18 and Dakota. http://www.dhc-1flyer.com/order_canada.html

CHAA offer a formation flight in Harvards that I've been wanting to do but keep having to put off, now that I'm living in Ottawa it's looking less and less likely. I should've done it when I had the chance! I bet the Chippy would be fun, especially if they fly with the canopy open!

Sadly the CHAA disbanded last year. My son was lucky to win a draw for a flight with them over CYFD a few years back. This is him in the back seat of 039. The clip is loud! Be careful.

The Canadian Harvard Aerobatic Team disbanded, but the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association hasn't gone anywhere, thankfully. They just had an event on the 9th of July in Tillsonburg. Thankfully CH2A changed their name, it was getting confusing for a bit there as we had CHAA, CHAT, and CH2A all active and within a few hours of each other.

Thanks for sharing the clip, love that sound!

Very glad to see the Chipmunk book is still available. It is an absolute treasure trove of info, and a must have for anyone who loves the Chipmunk. There is only one other aircraft profile book of this depth that I own, and that one is for the Harvard! Entitled "Harvard - The North American Trainers in Canada" by David C Fletcher and Doug Macphail.

While I have not flown in anything from CWH, I did get to fly four times with CHAA. In fact, I only figured out a few months ago that my flight time is greater in the Harvard than it is in the Chippy. But there was one day on which I flew in both types back to back. This was back in 1994. I was at Tilsonburg to fly the Harvard for the first time with CHAA. As we were holding short awaiting takeoff, a Chipmunk landed. After my flight in "46", I introduced myself to the woman who'd brought the Chipmunk there, and a flight ensued. Yes, Harvard and Chipmunk on the same afternoon. Just fantastic. Can't believe this is almost 30 years ago already.

I have yet to fly in a Beech 18, but have enjoyed flight time in the Dakota, L188 Electra, L10 Electra, B-17, T-34, Piper Cub, and Fleet Canuck. Would like to fly in some warbirds with a museum out here on the prairie, but I can't as I do not meet their current requirements. Maybe another year.

So, for now, it is Harvard and Chipmunk in MSFS, and currently mostly Chipmunk. Just hoping the repaints start to flow at a faster rate.

    Returning to my aviation roots....

It was in 1971 that I waddled up to a Chipmunk for the first time, yes waddled. Former cadets who wore those parachutes know what I mean. That day is written on my mind as one of the most significant of my life. The day I experienced flight for the first time. The location was RAF Newton near Nottingham. In many ways that location is as special to me as the Chippy itself.

Well, there's been no "RAF" Newton for decades. Although EGXN still exists in MSFS, try spawning there and you'll see little that makes you think of aviation... Not even a runway. Today in real life it's farmers fields, and expanding housing estates. But that was not what I wanted. And so for the past month and a half I've been learning scenery design, getting to grips with the SDK, and slowly I'm seeing an artist's representation of RAF Newton "rising from the ashes" on my computer. It is very frustrating as there are not many buildings available that match the past reality, and some that I am using personally cannot be shared due to restrictions, so for now, this version is "just for me." Should I advance to building creation, or find someone who wants to join me who does design buildings, maybe this project will be shared at some time. For now... Here's my work in progress tribute to RAF Newton, as I return indeed to my aviation roots.
