    I always thought John Alcock and Arthur Witten-Brown were first to cross the Atlantic in 1919 flying a Vickers Vimy, admittedly not as stylish as the S.55 but still worth remembering.

    Pardon me I just realised they mean east to west as opposed to hailing from the western hemisphere.
