    Jan 2022 update CTD's

I thought I better start a new thread for this one in case anyone else is having issues.

Some may have seen in the other thread that I've been in FS hell since the new update with constant CTD's happening anywhere from the loading screens to part way into a flight. I would get a CTD every time without fail.
I even tried a full reinstall of MSFS to no avail, I lost count of how many times it CTDed just installing the Content Manager files.

Well thanks to some guys over at the official forum I'm 99.9% sure I've fixed it and it was down to something called Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer. This damned thing was installed a few days ago by a Windows update and there doesn't seem to be any way to uninstall it.

If your having CTD's check to see if this thing snuck onto your system and disable it.

Just open the Control Panel and choose sound and scroll through the installed devices it will be listed as Speakers Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer.
Double click it and at the bottom where it says Device Usage change it from Use this Device (Enable) to Don't Use This Device (Disable)

Since doing this I've Done about half a dozen flights and haven't had a single CTD

Hope this is of use to someone.

Now how in the world anyone would have 2 & 2 together = Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer?

There sure are some smart folks in the Flight Sim Community....

I've subscribed to this thread using the "thread tools" section in case I start having CTD's.

    Thanks for posting!

Is this a Windows 11 thing? I have Windows 10, and I haven't had an update pushed to my PC lately, and this Sonic Studio thing does not show up in my control panel.

I'm making a mental note of your post though, in case Windows does push an update or I start getting CTDs.

My sim has been more stable since the update, with just a few CTDs caused, I suspect, by having 3 or 4 different SimConnect applications fighting over communication with the sim.

    I'm on Windows 10 too

What I heard since is that it seems to be an ASUS and MSI motherboard thing so if you have either of those there's a chance you have it and other boards should be OK.

What I'm not happy about is that I have my windows update set to not update hardware drivers so why did I still get this pushed on me.

I was the one on the official forums who suggested looking for rogue drivers. Luckily I don't have this problem myself but for those who do, Sonic Studio is an App and can be found in MS Store - check the installed apps list, you can uninstall it from there.

    Hi tiger
There's nothing Sonic Studio or similar in my MS Store Apps or in add remove programs in Windows.

I'm on an Asus laptop and there's nothing resembling that audio setup in Device Manager or program lists. Maybe it's only on towers?

According to this Asus FAQ page: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1037019 there should be a Nahimic Component Driver in Add/Remove Programs and a Sonic Studio 3 app in MS Store. Maybe you've already uninstalled it somehow?
