but ran into the maximum allowable uploads on flightsim.to before the VMF-2 paint, so a bit more patience for that one please

How are the sounds for this bird? That's one thing that is critical to immersion but seems to get passed by often (not necessarily AH).

    Thanks

The soundpack is WWise. We have done our best (so far) with the process. WWise is an evil monster to get to know fully. As we get more comfortable with it, upgrades will naturally come but so far we are happy with the results. The only thing we are planning for an upgrade with the F3F-2 is to deepen the pitch - some have been reporting it as being a little light.

Love the silver Marines job Jan.

Thanks Bazzar, that's good to hear. It's a little soon after the holiday spending spree but it's on my list.

Baz, I hope you don't mind, but I changed the paint on the US Navy textures a bit..
now with dark grey on top and light grey below both wings

No mate it's fine. I assumed that the Navy livery followed the others with light grey lower wings. You learn something every day.

  10. #35
I changed the tail markings to smaller, black letters as well

OrbX finally made it live and I spent some time flying around. Flight model is great and it's awesome how far the visuals have come since the first version! A few minor issues still remain but I reported those to AH.
DennyA, i figure this must be a carrier, right ? Could you tell me which one and where to get it please ?

Would you mind shooting a screenie of it and tell something about it ?

    Thanks a lot!

Hey Javis, yes, this is part of a group of WW2 carriers near Hawaii. Superspud has a two-part set of carriers spread around the world, both modern and WW2 carriers. Due to limitations in MSFS at the moment, they don't move (and they have hidden islands under them to make them landable), but they look great. You can use the freeware version of Kinetic Assistant if you want to simulate arrestor wires, or there are now a few planes building that functionality in. (The upcoming Wildcat, for instance.)

Note that Volume 2 requires Volume 1 to work. You can see a bunch of screens at the links!

    Hey Jan,

    Great work as always!

The VMF-2 skin is actually from my old squadron, VMA-211.

If a cross post is allowed, I recently wrote up a bit of their history…

    https://forums.mudspike.com/t/dcs-2-...-2022/13470/21

The only thing you might change is that the lion on the tail appears to be jumping up, if I can see it correctly.

211 chose the “Plunging lion” as being a proper symbol of the spirit of the attack.

Now, if someone could do a good VMFA-211 skin for the F-35B, you’d have the two bookends of the squadron’s aircraft

Thanks very much, Denny, that's absolutely fantastic !

Pity they don't move but one step at a time, éh? I'm sure that'll come before we can say Bolter! This static carrier collection already is an amazing gift. Thanks a lot, Superspud ! Wow!!

Did have the Kinetic Assistant payware version already with the Discus sailplane. Both quite amazing too!

Now let's see.... what plane to use to learn deck landings..... Do not have the Corsair yet but just got the F3F. F-14 too but i think i leave that for later, i'm sure that'll come down to one Bolter after the other or worse...

Thanks again, Denny, gonna be fun as long as MSFS behaves !

Is that a gopro on the top of the wing?

    LouP

  17. #42
Actually, yes, in a way. It's a gun camera.

  18. #43
The Fairchild H-1 Aerial Gun Camera, as used for training purposes. It could be seen fitted to other Navy types of the same period as well, such as on the Douglas TBD Devastator, Brewster Buffalo, Curtiss BFC-2 and Curtiss SBC Helldiver.

Hey Deacon, I am trying to do the texture for F35B red 01 when VMFA-211 was detached aboard the HMS Queen Elizabeth.
See screenshots section, page 115 post #2855.

And I'm updating my VMF-2 paint, and adding some extra's...

Awesome Jan! Just took the Barrel for a spin in another of your great paints. MSFS is starting to get uncanny once you guys get ahold of it!

here's my VMF-2 paint, hopefully now with the tiger in the right orientation?
jk0720 by JanKees Blom, on Flickr

Not being a specialist in US Navy colors, I've always been fascinated by those bright pre-war colors, but I could not see any system to it. However, it being the military, there is of course a system to all these numbers and bright colors, and the aircraft above is the third aircraft of the first section of VMF-2. How does that work?
The code, 2-MF-3 stands for 2nd squadron of Marine Fighters, 3rd aircraft. Each squadron was divided into 6 sections, so 18 aircraft in total. Each section had its own colors, Royal Red, White, True Blue, Black, Willow Green and Lemon Yellow for sections 1 to 6. Each aircraft in the section had a chevron in the section color on top of the wing. The lead plane had a ring in the section color around the fuselage, and a ring around the engine cowling.
The second plane had the upper half of the engine cowling in the section color, and the 3 plane had the lower half in the section color, which is what you see here.
For instance the 3rd aircraft of the second section would have the chevron and the lower cowling in white, with the code 2-MF-6.

So I thought it would be fun to paint a complete section, Red, or 1st section of VMF-2:

Now that I understand the system of colors and codes, I found one of my previous paints contains a mistake, I'll let you guys figure out which one..I'll be updating it later

Oh, and the colors on the tail refer to the carrier they were based on, using the same colors mentioned above, for instance Red for the Yorktown, Green for the Ranger, Yellow for the Lexington etc..
But only for the navy, the marines had the red white blue tails....I think.

Thanks Jan! It looks perfect. Would have made “”Hammerin’ Hank” Elrod proud!

That color system was pretty wild, wasn’t it? Thank God for radio!

    Trusted providers of new aircraft

New to MSFS and this forum. Besides buying aircraft in-game ( all from Asobo/Microsoft? ) how do you know which other providers are reliable/trusted?
