    Building Object Repaints UT

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Scenery - Library objects

Description: Building Textures for CFS2 by UncleTgt

This is a set of replacement textures for most of the buildings used in FCS2. I wanted to improve the sharpness & clarity of a lot of the buildings I could see in the Sim, without destroying the look & feel. Examining the texture bitmaps in the SCENEDB/inf?texture folder, I could see a lot of them were quite small, & extensive use was made of alpha channel transparencies.

After some experimentation, I found that in most cases a simple doubling in size, & some image sharpening was all that was needed to dramtically improve the appearance in the sim. Now we have much more powerful PC hardware in use, it doesn't seem to adversely affect loading or rendering times at all.

For some others, I have extensively reworked the originals, adding texture details whilst for the most part retaining the same look & feel.

Xavier's warehouses used a variety of source textures & involved significant stretching & distortion in parts, so they needed a little more work. I changed their look to a pre-fab tin sheet exterior, that I felt was more in keeping with the period. No more singling out those warehouses because of their pale white & buff coloured roofs! We probably need some newer storehouse bgls ...

At this stage I've not reworked any of the AF buildings, being largely satified with their "SWPTO" appearance. Maybe at some point in the future ...

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

Arno Gerretsen for ModelconverterX, such a clever & versatile tool
Xavier, Wolfi, Maskrider, Lindsay Watt, Pen32win & all the other original scenery object designers. I'm just slapping on some new paint over their original work.

    PNG Mine Camp Objects UT

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Scenery - Library objects

Description: PNG Mine Camp Objects for CFS2 by UncleTgt

This is a collection of eye candy objects to help depict the placer goldmine sites of eastern Papua New Guinea. Although abandoned at the start of the Pacific War, these workings were quite extensive in parts (see Wau & Bulolo), & located as they were high up in the mountain valleys, were largely supplied by air during their heyday in the 1930's.

I created using G-Max & Allen's Making Exploding Objects using FS2002 Tools & Tutorial. The sluices are multi-LOD & include custom destroyed models, the mine tailings & settlement ponds are all single LOD eye candy only objects.

    This pack includes:

Piles of mine tailings (2 types)
    Settlement ponds (2 types)
Timber mine sluice channels (broken, level & inclined models)
A "Long Tom" separator table for the end of the sluice channel

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

    Thanks to

XavierB, Maskrider & Wolfi for leading the way with their infrastructure objects
Allen for his Making Exploding Objects using FS2002 Tools & Tutorial

Thanks, very nice John, as said things like this seem simple but takes time and adds to the overall feel of the sim....

I think that the standard tex for small objects were done in 128x, 256x, and 512x, and smaller, as pc's then couldn't cope and storage wasn't as big. It would be interesting to take a vanilla game and convert all the texs into 512 min and bigger, and see what total size it makes it, and if it has any hit at all on the sim?

    Cheers

Very unique and nicely done. Am I correct in assuming these two PNG objects will be part of the GSL when you release the New Guinea update?

Icon22 New objects and textures and wrecks, oh my!

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Scenery - Library objects

Description: Copra Plantation Palmtree Objects for CFS2 by UncleTgt

This is a collection of eye candy objects to help depict the lines of palmtrees found in the copra plantations across the SWPTO. These sites were often close to or part of the many airbases & harbours used by both sides.

They are multiLOD, & were developed to give reasonable framerates even when used in large quantities.

    I created using G-Max & Allen's Making Exploding Objects using FS2002 Tools & Tutorial.

    This pack includes:

    5 x palmtree patch
    9 x palmtree patch
    25mtr quad line of trees
    50mtr Double line of trees
    50mtr quad line of trees
    100mtr double line of trees
    100mtr quad line of trees

The smaller items are more useful where thare are slopes, but increase the number of objects used to cover any given area. The 50mtr & 100mtr lines are best used on relatively flat areas (such as surrounding airbases or close to the coastlines).

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

    Tulagi Seaplane wrecks UT

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Scenery - Library objects

Description: Tulagi Seaplane Wrecks for CFS2 by UncleTgt

This is a collection of seaplane models configured as infrastructure ships. The options are:

H6K4_moored_UT - an undamaged H6K Mavis, at rest - Displays as H6Kwreck_A_UT when destroyed.

    H6Kwreck_A_UT - a destroyed H6K Mavis

H6Kwreck_tail_UT - the tail unit of a destroyed H6K Mavis

Rufe_moored_UT - an undamaged A6M2N Rufe, at rest - Diplays as Rufe_wreck_B_UT when destroyed.

Rufe_wreck_A_UT - the nose section of a destroyed A6M2N Rufe

    Rufe_wreck_B_UT - a destroyed A6M2N Rufe

The base model for the Rufe is Akemis A6M2N. The base model for the Mavis is Piglet's H6K5. I just removed crew & details not required to depict a unmanned craft, & created destroyed models from their base models.

There is a mission included so you can view the models moored at Gavutu.

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

    Hirez Runway textures UT

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Scenery - Library objects

Description: Hi-Rez Runway Textures for CFS 2 by UncleTgt

These are texture reworkings based partly upon the work by Shphawk back in 2016. Mostly a retinting exercise, but the Steel Mat runway texture has been more extensively revised.

The bitmaps are in 444-4 format, as I find this format is the best compromise for "shimmering" (due to graphic card performance) & sharpness of texturing.

The alpha channel blending isn't perfect, but the runway object format has some limitations ;-o

    Pier and Slipway Objects UT

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Scenery - Library objects

Description: Pier & Slipway Objects for CFS2 by UncleTgt

This is a collection of eye candy objects for smaller harbours & ports.

Being simple objects they are single LOD, but most do have a custom destroyed model.

I created them using G-Max & Allen's Making Exploding Objects using FS2002 Tools & Tutorial.

    This pack includes:

Stone causeway 25mtr x 2mtr high - same height as Wolfi's wooden piers
    Stone causeway 50mtr x 2mtr high
    Stone causeway ramp
    Stone causeway angled "bend"
    Stone causeway endcap
    Wood Jetty 25mtr x 2mtr high
    Wood jetty 50mtr x 2mtr high
Wood jetty 50mtr with transit shed
    Wood jetty ramp
Small slipway timber & coral - a shallow slipway object as a low tech option to Xaviers concrete slipways
Wider slipway PSP & coral - a shallow slipway object as a low tech option to Xaviers concrete slipways
    Small Christian Mission Building
    Open Sided Transit Shed

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

Great stuff UT....in fact, fantastic stuff John!!

Good to have quality choice for CFS2, and at last a very decent crushed coral runway, need that kind of detail in other theatres..

Many thanks also for the Mavis, great when things start making sense lol.

    Cheers
