    Icon22 UPLOADED: Spitfire LF.Mk.VB Package

    Ok, at long last I have uploaded the final package of Spitfire Mk.Vs! There will be 14 more aircraft representing five variants of the Spitfire LF.Mk.VB fitted with the Merlin 45M or Merlin 55M. These include standard and clipped wingtips, early and late style windscreens, and some with very late production features such as enlarged elevator balance horns and six-stub exhaust stacks. One aircraft (FF-D) is one of a handful of Spitfire Mk.Vs to be fitted with a Merlin 55M engine, which featured improved handling under negative g-forces.

    This brings the total number of Spitfires in our Mk.V series to 65, spread amongst 20 variants in four separate downloads.

    Make sure you install the Spitfire Mk.VA package as it includes shared files required for this package to work. It is available here:

    The Real Systems Module included with the aircraft has all of the new features introduced with the Spitfire Mk.II release as well as a number of new features. The major improvements include:

    -Completely overhauled wind sound effects for the cockpit and airframe.

    -Cockpit shake effect influenced by such things as stalls, engine operation, engine damage, and gunfire.

    -More realistic gun jams, which can now throw off your aim due to asymmetric recoil if only one cannon jams.

    -More realistic engine damage effects.

    -Improved fuel consumption accuracy.

    If you have the Spitfire Mk.II installed, it will continue to function as before.

    Make sure to read the installation instructions carefully. It will likely save you a lot of frustration.

    If you're going to use the Real Systems Module, you must have the latest version of Ankor's shaders installed:

    Also, make sure to familiarize yourself with the pilot manuals. Some of the systems are different from the Spitfire Mk.II, and will surprise you in unpleasant ways unless you read the Mk.V manuals.

    New Engine sounds by Daniel (Gecko) Holtz. Some high-speed propeller sounds by Nigel Richards and used by permission. This set introduces various sounds for compressors and superchargers as well as low rpm rough running sounds.

    Guy "fox" Greenburg made the dr_ prefixed effect textures. (Most will have these already from MAW and ETO and RS etc but they have been included for completeness.)

    CFS3 Spitfire LF.Mk.VB


    A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 3 Aircraft Add-Ons

    Description: Spitfire LF.Mk.VB Aircraft Set

    This package contains a total of 14 Spitfire LF.Mk.VBs.

    In a further effort to improve the Spitfire Mk.V to meet the challenge of the Fw 190, a specialized low-altitude version of the Merlin 45 was developed. The Merlin 45M featured a smaller diameter, or "cropped" supercharger. This increased the engine's efficiency at low altitude, at the expense of performance at high altitude. Spitfires fitted with the Merlin 45M were designated Spitfire LF.Mk.VB - the LF prefix denoting a Low-altitude Fighter. This increased horsepower afforded by the Merlin 45M partially restored parity with the Fw 190, at least at low-altitude. Often - but not always - this was combined with clipped wingtips for improved roll rate. The prevalence of clipped wingtips on LF Spitfires, and the fact that the Merlin 45M-equipped aircraft were externally identical to those with a standard engine, has given rise to the myth that the LF prefix denotes clipped wingtips, when in reality it refers only to the engine installation. As the Spitfire Mk.IX began to take over high altitude duties, many older Mk.Vs were re-engined with the Merlin 45M, often after a stint in training or maintenance units. These aircraft were often well worn, or "clapped out", thus earning the Spitfire LF.Mk.VB the nickname "clipped, cropped, and clapped." The Spitfire LF.Mk.VB began reaching frontline units in mid 1942, and remained in combat until well after the D-Day landings in 1944.

    Included in this package are a total of five variants typical of LF.Mk.VBs serving from spring of 1942 through summer 1944. These include standard and clipped wingtips, early and late style windscreens, and some with very late production features such as enlarged elevator balance horns and six-stub exhaust stacks.     The package also uses the CFS3 Real Systems Module, introduced with the release of the Spitfire Mk II and updated to include Mk.V systems in the Spitfire Mk.VA package. The Real Systems Module allows highly detailed modeling of aircraft systems and cockpit controls for a much more realistic flying experience. New features aircraft systems added by the module include:

    -Fully clickable cockpit!

    -Fully functional Mk. II Reflector Gunsight with all controls modeled.

    -Working radiator shutter with realistic effect upon engine temperatures - including engine failures due to overheating.

    -Compressed air emergency undercarriage deployment system.

    -More realistic gun and cannon operation, including a gun safety switch, gun jams, and freezing (pilot must use radiator to supply adequate heat to the guns).

    -Realistic British-style pneumatic brake system.

    -Realistic engine starting procedure.

    -Two-position mixture control.

    -Detailed fuel system management.

    -Fully modeled pneumatic system which releases pressure with system operation, recharges pressure by an engine driven pump, can be damaged, and causes system failures when pressure gets too low either through use or damage.

    -Pilot controlled lighting, including landing lights, navigation lights, and cockpit lighting.

    -Realistic bailout procedure (must open canopy first, canopy will not open at high airspeeds, pilot cannot exit the aircraft while experiencing high g-forces or if badly wounded).

    -Detailed animations of cockpit controls including numerous new sound effects.

    -Support for TrackIR head-tilt for ALL CFS3 aircraft when using the Real Systems Module.

    -Many other new features.

    -Detailed manuals and checklists to aid you in learning to fly the Spitfire.

    The Real Systems module requires that you install the latest (2019 or later) release of Ankors Shaders before installing this package, as the new features of the Real Systems Module, as well as many visual enhancements are only active if the shaders are installed.

    What a number of Spitfires ! Spending hours flying and still haven't flown them all ! Thanks for all the work and effort ! Can't count all the Spitfires i have now but they are the most i have in fighters for sure ! Thanks to all the Spitfire modders ! CFS3's most popular bird ! Regards,Scott
