    Hi Kevin
    Great Picture.
    Shorts and Malaria?

At Milne Bay the malaria epidemic was among the worst ever suffered by the Australian Army.

My Uncle Reg was at Milne Bay.

    Cheers

    Hi Stuart,

I remember dad saying the malaria vaccine made him very ill for days, especially with the heat and pouring rain. He was living in a tent for 18 months.

By the way, I've been testing new Midway missions for TheBookie. Your ships look fabulous.

    Cheers,
    Kev

    Great photo Kevin.

John, would you be interested in the odd Aussie soldier without hat/ helmet? Some prone troops behind a felled palm tree would also add interest. There was also a lot of use made of the 25 pdr field gun in New Guinea and the islands north of NG.

Having completed the inland landing strips at Yodda Creek, Kokoda & Myola Lakes, my construction crews have moved back to Port Moresby to complete the facilities there.

Fist up, Kila 3 mile - the gsl objects have yet to be relocated, but it shows the new Rhumba mesh world location quite well.

    John,

Are you redoing the Port Moresby airfields by Pen32Win? Or are these FSX-style texture mapping?

    Well, hello stranger!

These are completely new, to fit Rhumbas mesh. They will be a little earlier than Pen32win's, say early '43-ish.

There will be a slight hiatus in this project. Unfortunately my graphics card died on me last night , so although I have all the G2K work, landclass & waterclass work done, & all the airfields are completed too, I can't start the gsl work until I'm back up & running...

Ack! Computer hardware failures - my worst nightmare. I hope it's an easy fix for you.

Yodda Creek is 8 miles NW of Kokoda. In the 1930's it was the site of some Gold mining activity, & had it's own landing strip. During the Pacific War this strip was deemed unsuitable for use, & the camp abandoned with obstacles strewn across the landing area so the Japanese couldn't make use of it.

Some WIP views of Yodda & nearby the grass strip at Kokoda.

    UncleTgt,

Thank you very much for all of the work you continue to do to keep CFS2 alive! The pics and the scenery look amazing.

    This looks impressive!

Will it work with Rhumba's "old" LOD-DEM meshes and matermasking, or will it require his most recent 'Global Surface Water' set?

  17. #42
As with all my scenery, it is created to use Rhumbas new world mesh & show off the huge amount of work Dick carried out in providing this more accurate mesh. That said, it has it's own watermasks & excludes, so it should work with an old world install.

TBH an "old world" install should just use the old Pen32win Port Moresby & Maskrider Papua New Guinea airfields.

    Thank you.

A bit OT: is there a good (or at least acceptable) GSL randition of Rabaul for stock meshes? I use an "old world" install for South Pacific, mainly because of stock airfields and all the old missions/campaigns I have, but I have always been quite frustrated by how "empty" Rabaul area looked like.

Myola Lake proved a tough landing ground to make use of. Unsuitable for DH84s or C47s, they tried to get a Hudson in there & it nearly lost it's undercarriage on the way out. They used a Ford Trimotor but that overturned on landing. They were more succesful using USAAF O-49/L-1 Vigiliants for CASEVAC.

But no FS version of the Vigilant exists, so I've converted Joe Binka's "Shaky Jake", a Cessna 195, & given it a 1942/43 USAAF ambulance paint job as a stand-in ...

THe Kokoda Track gsl is completed, I 'm now starting on the gsl for the Port Moresby area itself - this may take some time. Meanwhile, here's a few screengrabs to hold your interest.
