The Soviets did have good success with the P-39 in air to air combat at lower altitudes. Could they have been using the P-63 closer to the end of the war? The lend-lease agreement actually forbade the use of the new P-63 against the Nazi's, the Soviet's were to keep their P-63's in the east, for an eventual attack on Japanese forces. We all know the Soviet's always kept their promises, right?

Looks very nice indeed. The planes are P-39s. The Kingcobra had a taller fin.

As standss said, the Soviets loved the P-39 at lower altitudes, where most of the action took place on the eastern front. The big gun in the nose made a good difference.

Indeed. My mother's cousin (Gerhard Homuth) flying a Focke-Wulf 190A-6 was lost in a dogfight with several Soviet fighters. He downed a P-39, but never returned from the mission. Still MIA to this day. No way to be sure, but the other fighters may have also been P-39's.
