Not sure I can help you there - I am downloading the whole thing which was just a normal log in provide password etc. Not finished downloading it yet. There is an extensive thread involving some of the LM Testers who were involved. ( P3D V5.2 is out now - Page 6 - The Prepar3d Forum - The AVSIM Community ) No point in recreating it here. LM have also a PDF Download and Install Instructions at their site. I am still reading!.

No major glitches or issues and many improvements to, internal logic and GUI's, memory mapping, ram usage, particle and light management, EA True Sky etc etc. Feedback so far seems very positive. LM obviously keep in touch with developers pre release because there are already updates (if required) to a lot of specialised addons etc - for most not required. Seems they also have really addressed the VR aspect now too for those who like and use VR.

That actually helped after I got the PDF transferred to my Ipad. Looks like in my case as my Dell G5SE is highly technical im gonna have uninstall the P3D5.1 complete clean and call the Dell IT Rep. They have Re Align a couple of my systems before I install the New Version to work with my experimental 360 VR/AI/AR visor/helmet.

Yes I am am going very lightly here. The addons I can move (all xml method) but it is the scenery and ORBX is my biggest concern - I am not sure how to handle that as I have the main LC and Global in the main sim but fortunately all the rest on a separate drive apart from the client segment there is scenery updates and fixes as well. Other than the scenery everything else should be no issue as it is all held as xml addons with nothing in the main sim folders. I will back up the gauges, effects and sound folders and a few critical files like the scenery config file as well.

It does seem you will also need to reset or remap a joystick or similar as there are some changes there in terms of key commands. Given the extensive fixes and changes I will do it. No major dramas reported elsewhere and it seems well integrated otherwise.

Looking forward to being able to control the volumetric clouds via sliders on a menu and the changes to the lighting and sky colouring! Question will be have they fixed Sim Director!!

Finally! Great. I felt it in my bones that it will be soon .
I will wait for few updates of addons like Active Sky, Chaseplane ect, about FTX Sceneries yes, its always problem for me too. I reinstalled all my addons and installed again, luckily I don't have many of them installed now.

    The list of changes: https://www.prepar3d.com/news/announ...021/06/120786/

Of course I write about full installation of P3D, if you do only client (and scenery/content) it will be ok but I always prefer full new version.

This is interesting: wow, so now we can use old versions of clouds with EA=on?

    • Enhanced Atmospherics can now be used with legacy (non-volumetric) clouds.

at the list I see a lot of nice changes. Looks like really great update!

Ok I followed the LM advice and did not do the full clean reinstall but followed the update process - Delete the program part by part via the WIN10 APP using the Win 10 APP controller - then reinstall Client first, then Content, then Scener in that sequence.

All installed, version verified and all changes confirmed. No need to reinstall anything, found them all and kept the addons as they were.

Has a different menu bar and menu selection. Now asks you if you want to save the last scenario when you exit. I checked the sky for the EA- True Sky changes with the time slider - no more blood red skies much more realistic. Worked fine with ORBX addon scenery and with real time Wx Engine (P3DWX) running to give real weather. Changed locations around the globe and vehicles. No problems encountered at all. I like the volumetric cloud control now via the Weather GUI.

A really big change - SIM DIRECTOR - now works as advertised, with all my scenery and vehicle addons - it took less than a minute for SIM Director to launch and be ready to use!

Well no complaints - I am now very impressed a great job and worth waiting for - this is a real simulator.

Thank you so much for your explanation! I am also downloading now. The good thing is, I believe, that I could (if I wanted) reinstall the previous version, if I had any problems? I am gonna be careful about installing as always now. I read, and REREAD everything before pushing the Enter button!!! NC
Oh, and as for Simdirector, I have never used it successfully, but I know it is a powerful tool!

What is good in current version and EA=on, if you dont like this volumeric clouds (or your PC cant handle this) you can stay with orginal/REX mix of 2D/3D clouds also (so like in P3Dv4 only) but with lighting from v5!

Well I now have a major puzzle!. I tried everything, location, time, models, etc etc. Worked my way through the hangar and left the best till last 2 portovers from FSX (all fixed re 64 bit internal models etc etc,) These worked without any problems in 5.1 both now cause the sim to CTD. They all appear in the vehicle menu, then on select to fly the screen goes black and then P3D just quits - no error messages, no event log info nothing. Took them out, reinstalled them, same outcome!. This has me stumped! 2 only 2 and absolutely nothing else. hmmmm!

This happened to me when I upgraded to 5.1. My solution was to navigate to the P3D.cfg file and delete it. Then started P3D and let it rebuild. Problem solved. Apparently if you uninstall P3D the cfg file remains behind. If you save a copy before you delete it you may be able to save time with remapping your controllers and custom setting by putting back in after the sim recovers. Hope this helps

Thanks Spad. Already been down this route. It seems it is related to the interior models for the aircraft. They are loading in exterior view and working but when P3D loads it of course starts with the interior model, panel, gauges, textures etc. Why these 2 aircraft interior models now have a major conflict with 5.2 is truly a mystery. Others do not do it at all and work just fine. At least it is not a gauge issue.

Subject to be chased down in other forums I think.

  21. #21
Oh, wow, I would have been so excited about this a year or so ago! But I see that it looks like they may have addressed the VR video RAM crashes I kept getting with 5.1, so looks like I might need to revisit my P3D install!

I'm a huge fan of MSFS, but I have so many planes for P3D, there's reason to keep it around.

Gonna have try the Let410 and that Falcon 20 in the SOH Lib to see if it works. The payware Flysimware Falcon 50 loves the new update so far. No issues with LatinVFR MHRO or KCRP/KSAT. Gonna get interesting as I add in the Canadian Attic of Nunavut.

So far I have had no problems at all with 99% of the aircraft that were in 5.1 and the same for all my addon scenery (ORBX included) or I might add with the sim's operation at all.

Milton Schupes Dash 7 FSX Native version is a bust again for reason unknown other than something to do with the interior model. So is the KBT Electra L188 despite extensive upgrades and working in 5.1 just a no go with 5.2 will not load the interior model.

All of Flight Replicas aircraft work, all of AH's that I have are operative (Lancaster, HS748, BAC 111, Otter, Dove, VC10, DC-8), so are Carenado's, A2A (Anson, Spitfire and L049), PMDG (DC-6), Aerosoft (PBY and Twin Otter), Flight 1, BN2, DC9 (30 MD80 and Super 80). FS Addon Bristol Freighter and Anson, no issues with the JF Professional BAE 146.

Well, despite updating my video driver, plus attempts at various graphics adjustments, I have many payware aircraft with texture problems, I. E. Dino's Skyhawk and Simworks Phantom. Does not help that Simworks is out of the P3D business now. Oh well. I am planning to dump 5.2 and reinstall 5.1. I had zero problems with that version. I am running a 8700k cpu with a 1080ti card. Should not have these problems. NC

I am still on V4.5 but intend to upgrade to V5.2 or latest. I would install from scratch the latest V5 which should have all the patches
and forgo the issues that I've read here of those who have V5 but going to 5.1 or 5.2; I got my fingers crossed for a newer video board
in a month or so to support latest and greatest rendering of P3D5. Would like to have a dedicated SSD HD for it as well. I have a backup
system for all my HD's so if the SSD ever gave out, I'd just restore latest backup and go from there.
