    ***Weekend News***

    We hope that you are all enjoying our new, free DCS: Marianas and are exploring the islands. Optimisation for both 2D and VR is ongoing, and we hope to have some performance enhancements soon. Thank you all for your constructive feedback and bug reports.

    Please note that the scheduled maintenance of our primary server, website, Module Manager, and Multiplayer services is planned for the 13th of July at 04:00 UTC for a six hour period. We apologise for any inconvenience.

    DCS: Mosquito FB Mk.VI is progressing well. The cockpit is near final; we are adding details to instrumentation colour, reflections, and colour balance. Work on the radio transmitter T1154.B and receiver R1155 devices, as well as radio communications for VoiceChat, is also approaching completion. The external model is almost finished, and texturing is near completion. To keep you informed on the development process, we have taken the opportunity to prepare some In Development screenshots for you.

    We have improved gauge visibility by refining the center and side panel colour gamma values. The same pre-calculated ray tracing technology used in DCS: Mi-24P Hind has also been added. Glass, plastic covers, luminescent dials, and exposed wiring provide a more realistic look and feel.

    We are also working on final improvements to the external model, and we will be sharing progress with you soon. We are excited to see the finish approaching, and look forward to seeing this iconic fighter bomber in DCS World.

    P-47D Thunderbolt
    Promotion



    DCS: P-47D Thunderbolt is now running on EDGE 2.7. This means that you will notice more detailed and enhanced textures throughout the cockpit and external model.

    With its Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engines and heavy armament, the Jug can more than hold its own with the more recent and lighter P-51D Mustang, whilst withstanding more combat damage. Fully loaded, this extraordinary fighter is capable of carrying almost half the payload of a B-17 Flying Fortress. In the ground attack role, it can carry 1.3 tonnes of external ordinance, with a maximum take-off weight of nearly 8 tonnes.

The F-16C Viper now includes the AGM-154A JSOW and CBU-105 WCMD; both are fearsome ground attack weapons with precision strike capabilities. The Mi-24P Hind has a number of improvements, including a reworked pilot-operator aiming sight, new key binding options, and more.

    DCS: F/A-18C Hornet has also received numerous improvements and the addition of a new alignment procedure for the JHMCS. We are currently working on improvements to the FM.

    Further updates include the addition of the NASAMS Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system, updates to Normandy, Syria, and Marianas and a number of fixes and improvements to the DCS core. Our third party partners have also been busy with numerous improvements and fixes to their modules.

    History


    A revolutionary attack helicopter and battlefield game-changer, the AH-64 grew out of the U.S. Army’s 1972 ‘Advanced Attack Helicopter program.’ This identified the need for an attack helicopter that could outperform the AH-1 Cobra in terms of firepower, battlefield effectiveness, survivability, and range. The primary mission would be to counter a massed Soviet tank invasion in Europe if the Cold War turned hot. With the need for better close air support capability evident from combat experience in the Vietnam War, the Army specified that the AAH was to be armed with a 30mm cannon and 16 TOW anti-tank missiles compared with either a 7.62mm minigun, 20mm cannon and just 8 ATGM on the AH-1, and be able to survive 23mm AAA hits.

    The Army selected the Hughes YAH-64A for its better damage-resistance and stability. The missile armament specification was changed to include 16 AGM-114 laser-guided Hellfire missiles. The first prototype was flown on 30 September 1975. The AH-64A entered U.S. Army service in April 1986.

    In August 1990, development of the AH-64D was approved and it entered service in March 1997. The AN/APG-78 Longbow radar and sensor suite can detect and track up to 256 targets simultaneously out to a range of 50 km and engage up to 16 using “fire and forget” missiles. The system’s raised position above the rotor hub allows the gunship to do this while remaining in cover behind buildings, trees and masking terrain. If there are more targets than a single AH-64 D can handle, the Longbow’s systems allow it to stream targeting information to friendly air and ground units.

    The AH-64D has extensive combat experience from 1991 in the Liberation of Kuwait to Iraq, Afghanistan, the Gulf, Syria and Libya. More than 2,400 AH-64s have been built and it remains in frontline service with many nations around the world.

    You are tasked to defend the region of Krasnodar from an invasion of UN troops and fight for the Independence of Soviet Union provinces. The UN response is moderate however, the Soviet forces in the region are facing supply problems due to the rapid destabilization. Resources are limited, and forces lack support. As a frontline MiG-21bis squadron, move between bases as the conflict evolves.

    This MiG-21bis Battle of Krasnodar campaign features 25 story-driven missions, over 400 voiceovers, and a 1970’s units set. A large variety of CAP, CAS, Intercept, Escort, and Anti-ship missions are included. Detailed briefings, kneeboard files, and documentation are available for each mission.

    DCS World

    • AIM-120 AMRAAM has received a separate INS (Inertial Navigation System) unit with datalink support. The missile seeker model has been completely revised. The radar dish now uses a realistically gyro stabilized gimbal that is controlled by the INS before target lock. An active missile seeker, like that in the AIM-120, will have its detection and tracking lock range based on physical calculations of noise and target signal ratio (which in turn depends on target RCS or ECM power and range). Target search and tracking is based on doppler velocity filtering (introduced realistic velocity gate), and the radar will search for a target near the target reference velocity provided by the INS. The guidance law was also updated. Missile seekers have received Kalman filters that estimate target motion parameters. The new guidance law accounts for target normal to LOS accelerations, possible target G-load growth rate, compensate for missile x-axis acceleration, and missile control system latency.

    We continue refining our AIM-120 AMRAAM with much improved velocity search and tracking algorithms. This development should be available to you in the next Open Beta 2.7.8 update.

    In the new year, we plan to replace the entire line of pilot models for Russian aircraft and helicopters. This week we are pleased to share our progress on the ZSH-7AP helmet that will initially be available with DCS: Mi-24P Hind. Please check out the screenshots below.
    We are currently working on the TADS/PNVS combined sensor and targeting unit. This is a vital component of the advanced weapons systems on board the AH-64D and we look forward to bringing you the next lesson in the DCS: AH-64D Tutorial Series by Matt Wagner, coming soon.

    AIM-120 AMRAAM
    Development Progress

    Thank you for your continued patience and support since the initial release of the updated AMRAAM model. This sophisticated weapon has demanded quite deep remodelling and debugging and we found several issues in the missile velocity search and tracking algorithms. We have also made substantial improvements to HOJ and visual modes. The next stages of development are realistic range gating modelling to enhance the missile's onboard radar to contend with strong ground clutter returns.

    Development Progress

    Progress on the new pilot model for the VKS and the Armed Forces of Russia is going well and the replacement of the entire line of pilots for Russian helicopters and airplanes in the early part of the new year is on track. In the screenshots presented, you can see the ZSH-7AP helmet for the MiG-29, Su-27 and Su-33 fighters with the KM-35 oxygen mask and the NVU-7 helmet sighting device. The helicopter version of the ZSH-7AP helmet is equipped with the DMSH boom microphone for the Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters.

    Development Progress

    The Target Acquisition and Designation Sight (TADS) is equipped with a stabilised daylight television camera, a Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) camera, and a laser rangefinder / target designator for targeting by displaying video to crewmembers’ Helmet Display Unit (HDU) or TEDAC Display Unit (TDU). It can also be displayed on the Multi-Purpose Displays. The TADS FLIR can also be used as a Night Vision Sensor for night flying by either crewmember. This allows the TADS to be slaved to the helmet line of sight of either crew member for nap-of-earth flying under near total darkness. The TADS cameras have multiple fields of view that allow the operators to see large areas for enhanced situational awareness or zoomed in for precise targeting at long ranges.
    The DCS: AH-64D TADS FLIR camera is also being developed to showcase our new FLIR rendering technology that will provide a much improved and more realistic portrayal of the world as seen through infrared. This same technology will also be used for other FLIR sensors in DCS targeting pods such as the infrared-guided Maverick missiles.

    F/A-18C Rising Squall Campaign by INVERTED

    • The Cothesis tutorial campaign for beginners has been added. The campaign is conducted in the form of a tutorial and based on the story line of Rising Squall. If you have the Rising Squall campaign, you will automatically get this campaign when updating. The campaign will continue to be updated after release to add new content and custom comics. Dubbing will also be released gradually in future updates. At present, this small campaign includes a total of 16 missions. We look forward to your comments and feedback on the new tutorial form in the ED community.

    The following is the basic description of the campaign:
    The campaign are special tutorial missions under the F/A-18C Rising Squall Campaign DLC. It will take you from shallow to deep to be familiar with many basic functions and methods of using the F/A-18C Hornet. The tutorial is based on the INVERTED world under Rising Squall and some contents have been modified and simplified relative to the ED official tutorials for beginners. Therefore, this tutorial is not equivalent to the ED official tutorial, instead it focuses more on functions and application.In case of contradictions in some descriptions involved, the ED official tutorial shall prevail.
    UH-1H Worlds Apart - Spring 2025 Campaign by Low-Level-Heaven Mission Development

    • After French, German the next localization. Complete radio communication text in German, All Crew conversation with German Voice Overs.
    • UH-1 Skin with WOLFPACK sign and crewmember patches as well as logos on the helmets.
    • New Voice Overs added to give more guideline true the missions
    • Many Voice Overs changed for better understanding
    • Using the new drawing tool on the F-10 map together with more information provided in time, with map markers.
    • Providing the opportunity to shut down the engine at the end of every mission. Mission will end automatically after switching off the battery. You still will be able to end the mission after landing and the mission completed news, with “Esc”.
    • Issue with severe FPS problems in Mission 7, 10 and 11 solved.
    • A10 AI not engaging in Mission 7 – timed solution added so targets get destroyed and mission will continue.

    Known Issues

    • With enabled mirrors black flashes may appear in some cases.
    • MiG-19. Communication menu doesn’t work. Refuel/rearm workaround using Alt ‘
    • Voice Chat: In some cases intercom may work in Hot Mic mode in aircraft without HotMic.
    • Yak-52 - Voice Chat in Radio mode doesn’t work in the rear cockpit in multicrew.

    With the recent Open Beta 2.7.9 release, we are pleased to announce substantial new DCS: AJS-37 Viggen features as well as improvements to both the FW 190s and new RP-3 armament for DCS: Mosquito FB VI. Updates to the NS 430 Navigation System have also been made, including the use of the flat version in VR. We have also provided an important number of enhancements and general bug fixes in this release. Please enjoy the full changelog.

    We continue working on bug fixing and enhancements for our piston-engined aircraft. Recently, we have resolved a long standing issue that caused engine cut outs after long flights. This issue was most notable on the D-9 Dora and has now been resolved.
    The next step to improving the flight dynamics of DCS: Yak-52 are underway. Please keep a look out for the next Open Beta update to see these improvements and many other bug fixes.
    DCS: Supercarrier is making steady progress on the functionality of the Briefing room. The work on the Greenie board is finished and relays the actual information from the LSO station to provide live updates during the mission. Development Screenshots.
    We are happy to inform you that DCS: AH-64D has now entered Closed Beta Testing, this means that we are confidently moving closer to Early Access release.     Flight Dynamics

    As a result of the Flight Model enhancements, the aircraft will have more realistic take-off behaviour and better performance in inverted aerobatic manoeuvres. We understand that some of you have been waiting for these improvements a while and we thank you for your patience. Going forward we will address other tasks that need to be completed before moving DCS: Yak-52 out of Early Access. We very much look forward to your feedback in the next Open Beta update.
    WWII Engines

    Development Progress

    During the last few weeks, we have located and fixed a long standing and very tricky bug when the engine would suddenly stop after a long duration flight. As we can see the bug affected many warbirds but was mostly noticed on Fw 190D-9 Dora. We plan to include this fix in the next update.

    The work is essentially finished on the Greenie board that is connected to the actual LSO station data, which provides live updates during the mission.
    We are currently working on the functionality of crew tablets where you will be able to see mission briefings as well as check and change loadouts. In addition, the briefing officer can control the projected picture that is visible on the main screen and choose what to show on the auxiliary TV screen located above his head.
    AH-64D Flares

    Development Progress

    We are pleased to share our progress on the M206 IR Decoy Flares that provide protection against air-to-air and surface-to-air infrared weapon systems. The Advanced Infrared Countermeasure Munition (AIRCMM) consists of the M211 Flares and supplements the M206 Aircraft Countermeasure Flares. The M211 Flares are specifically designed for low flying, slow moving rotary aircraft.
