Does anyone know if 1) the moon does produce a lighting effect, and 2) if so can it be adjusted?
Tks
tough flying at night with no reflections that I can determine.

That's why i fly at Dusk... A great idea !
Are you using AnKor's shaders? For me ETO in the Spring looks like this in QC when you select night in the location settings. Ignoring the pre-war city lights, note the moonlight shadows on the aircraft.
I did have a time when everything looked way too dark to fly at night, and then I realized that I had some ReShade enhancements enabled that were causing it.

Ok, what do you mean by Reshade settings? Could you share? If you could share your ini file and other relevant files... I know you have done this but I am a slow learner.....
The issue with reshade was that I had routinely used
[Levels.fx]
BlackPoint=10
HighlightClipping=0
WhitePoint=245
to enhance the daytime color contrast, but this drives all the darker shades at night to display as black.
Turning off the levels effect for night flying restored reasonable nighttime visibility.
It also helps to have a well calibrated monitor, and have the background room lights lowered.

But where is that setting, that is which .fx file? I checked all the *.fx files I have......
