Chichen Itza to Mundo Maya Intl.

Continuing on my journey that originally started in Key West and last ended in Chichen Itza, Mexico, I did the next leg today from Chichen Itza Intl. down to Mundo Maya Intl. in Guatemala, by the city of Flores. Near this location is the ancient Mayan city of Tikal. Unfortunately, because it is not hand-crafted, Tikal right now has city buildings sticking up out of the jungle in-place of the Mayan temples/pyramids. Still, I really enjoyed the experience of the flight, which again was made in live time and with live weather, which started out clear, flying at 3,000 ft, but eventually I had to bring it up to 5 and then 6,000 to clear a system part way through the trip. I could visualize the humidity with all of the low ground-hugging clouds.

It started to get quite bumpy heading into/over this weather system, but I also had about a 15kt tail wind, which provided a nice boost in airspeed.

Out over the beautiful lake of Lago Peten Itza, getting close to the cities of San Benito and Flores.

Turning base to Mundo Maya-Flores Intl.

A bit later I took off again for a local flight to go and check out Tikal and found the city buildings there instead. If anyone ends up modeling it at some point I'm going to have to go back (Asobo still might at some point). I didn't take any screenshots of Tikal when I got there, but I decided to turn back and do some more flying around lake Lago Peten Itza, which turned out to be a perfect time of day for it.

I really like this shot, as I think it looks like the copilot is looking at the camera, ducking her head below the visor.

Yeah, it is a very photogenic paint scheme - I love the blue/grey combo.

    Mundo Maya to Toncontin Intl.

Today I continued on my next leg, about 1 hour and 40-minutes long, taking off from where I left off at Mundo Maya International in Guatemala and headed south east, IFR, to Toncontin International in the capitol of Tegucigalpa, Honduras (one of the hand-crafted airports). The IFR flight plan had me at 5,000 ft initially, but eventually this got worked up to 7,400, 8,000 and finally 9,000, in order to clear some weather systems and mountain ranges along the way. Live time and live weather again.

An interesting henge-like structure or impression here, seen just below the right wing tip, just outside the municipality of Poptún, Guatemala. There appears to be another next to it, but mostly obscured by trees/overgrowth:

An inversion layer can clearly seen here:

I love how on these flights, finding all of the many small villages dotted all over, on hill tops and down in valleys, and seemingly no matter how small/obscure/remote, there are autogen buildings to be found.

Are you sure those aren't real pictures of a real aircraft and flight?

P.S. Somebody needs to come up with some blond female avatar's. My girl friend...wife...life companion is a true blond. I would be in trouble if she caught me flying with one of those other women. If we had some blonds, I could say they were her.
