Some flying are "my backyard" (so-to-speak), which also happens to be where Wipaire tests their floats/float planes, which I see a lot of during the warmer months of the year.

I like the wood prop blades - but the Sensenich was a solid wood prop. A lamination, but solid in the sense that it was all one piece from end to end.

These were typically used with the Lycoming engine - and the McCauley or Hamilton standard ground adjustable steel props were used on the Continental and Jacobs..as a rule.

But I like this anyway - The Stearman was born with a wooden propeller.

    Heywoooody,

    That's truly a thing of beauty !

I wouldn't mind an episode of "How it was made" featering the construction of a wooden prop starting with the block of wood it's going to be made of. ( i used to work at a small 'laqué sleepingroom furniture factory' as an administrator. Everyday i enjoyed watching those professional wood workers doing their magic. Immensely beautiful end result, immensely expensive as well..)

@ Zsoltquack: love your Stearman shots !

That's a great photo - and I did say it was 'as a rule'.. The Navy was OK with the wood props but the AAC wanted steel... then at some point coinciding with the switch to Continental engines
the Navy changed their spec to steel propellers as well.

I think when these aircraft are restored, since they were outfitted both ways some owners opt for the old school wooden propellers - they used to be a pricing option but now I think the wood ones are more expensive than the steel ones

Great shots, Ryan! I love the night lighting, and seeing Valley Fair in the background of your shot taking off from KFCM. I was doing some late evening flying around the metro in MSFS last night too, and thought the clouds/sky really looked nice, as also shown in your screenshots.

I'm not sure if you've seen it or not, but within the comments section for the Red Wing KRGK scenery on Flightsim.to, there was an individual who has shared a fix for the two large terrain spikes near the airport.

Noddy, it is really nice to see my repaints being used, and very nice screenshots!

Here are some more screenshots of the PMDG DC-6 from my first flight around the Twin Cities last night.

Those are great shots Ryan. MN is a "hot bed" of aviation! John, your B-25 flew over Crystal Lake 2 times yesterday afternoon (and I see it occasionally at Airlake (KLVN) doing landings / takeoffs). New hangars are going up at Airlake (southside) and I hope some talented person will add them to MSFS.

Yeah, 'Miss Mitchell' has been over the house quite a bit this summer - last weekend it was up flying three days in a row. I definitely heard it a couple times again yesterday. It sounded like the BT-13 was up on a passenger flight this morning, between the rain showers.

Edit: The B-25 just flew over again now. : )
