Over the last year or so, I have been researching the aircraft and markings of my mother's cousin, Gerhard Homuth. He flew with JG-27 and JG-54 during the war and was with the Luftwaffe aerobatic team pre-war.

The more I research the more confused I get. For example. He flew the 109F-2 and 4 in North Africa. I have seen three different takes on the brown/blue used there. Some drawings show a high fuselage demarcation line, some mid fuselage and some low fuselage. As well, some show the rudder as red or yellow or white. Some show the spinner as 3/4 black and white or red and white.....

I really feel for the painters here. They have a special kind of patience.

EDIT: Also, I have seen paintings and markings for Franz Stigler's 109G-6 that show a straight horizontal line aft of the fuselage "Cross" and others show an "S" type line........ By the way, Stigler's story is interesting, Google it.
