    @Gray Eagle, don't touch the Shift-5 "Keys" panel, it's a systems gauge. I'll move it out of the way the next time around.

    @All, here is a preview of a turret-less WB-50D. The RB, EB, and TB versions were basically similar. I am putting some finishing touches on it and then it will be out as well.

    I don't doubt some SAC bigwig had his own VIP bird, no turrets, white top w/black cheat line, etc.

    Somewhere on the web is a photo of one of those KB-50s on the tarmac at Tan Son Nhut, hoses trailed out behind it, serving as an emergency fueling point for TAC fighters when they were first sent into VietNam in the early 60s. USAF didn't have a dedicated presence at TSN at the time and so used that expedient to refuel its aircraft until they could build physical facilities. Guess the KB-50s flew in from Clark with their gas.

    I believe KB-50Js flew in harms way as emergency tankers for jets in trouble over North Vietnam when KC-135s were regarded as too valuable to risk in enemy airspace.

    That is the best photo of the cockpit I have seen on the net. The caption indicates it is a B-50D; photo date March 13, 1951.

    Icon14 V4?

    I installed the B-50 into V4 no problem. Funny how the external modelling is better than vitavia's version but the interior is worse. I see the need to do this swap myself. Is the Virtavia stuff compatible with V4? I have had problems getting things to work on V4, some do and some don't. I was able to get Manfred Jahn's C-57 with some helpful tweaking from other members. Seems there are differences on some models between FSX-P3D and again into V4. I am dying for A2A to get their B-17 and warbirds ready. Seems all they are interested in now are the GA stuff. Great, but boring and not my kind of flying. Cessna and long paced airstrips are not my cup of tea past introductory.
    Thanks...

    Enola Gay was a B-29-- and Virtavia's already includes that scheme...The B-50 is a different airplane than the B-29.

    Jafo...I downloaded a number of your B-29 textures - to include your Enola Gay....Just incredible! Thanks for sharing them with us.

    Just to put things in perspective here. If you have not read the OP's opening detail on this release, it is a WIP and by his own admission, has a long way to go. Manfred is an excellent modeler and his past work is testament to that fact. The idea that you would label his work on the VC as "worse" than Virtavia's is an insult. This B-50 was not done to go head to head with anything Virtavia has done, it was released with the good wishes of a master modeler and yet almost all of this "Release Thread" has been about the problems caused by linking a VC to the B-50 that doesn't belong. It's been like watching a kid try to hammer a round peg into a square hole and expecting it to fit perfectly and when it doesn't, goes on and on about why it doesn't.

    I apologize if this draws the ire of any of you, but get a grip, fly the airplane as it was released and enjoy the amazing gift you've been given. Manfred himself has suggested as much on several occasions, fly the airplane with the VC it came with and give him time, thru future updates, to make it even better. I further suggest that on future releases where this sort of wholesale tweaking is felt to be in order, that a new thread is started so that the release thread can focus on the actual aircraft and not on "after market" upgrades.

    Thank you!

    I'm with you Falcon409. I tried to do the VC merge. It didn't work and I'm okay with that. Doesn't matter now. I love how the plane is coming along, and I look forward to many good flights with it.

    Ed, I concur. It's a work in progress and from my mucking about with it, it's very well done for what it is. Any errors while flying it have been entirely my fault and I'm having a blast with it during our nightly flights.

    BTW, that black paint hides the scorch marks from my "landings" quite well. Panther would be proud.

    Just downloaded this beauty. She flies like an arrow. Had a bit of time to play a bit with the shine and smoke.

    How to Adjust Engine Cruise Smoke Effect ?

    Hi guys,
    I noticed at cruise speeds the engine smoke effect is s bit off.
    Smoke does not correspond to location of exhaust pipes of engines.
    Anyone have any idea of how to adjust these numbers from the aircraft config to 'align the smoke with the exhaust' ?
    When facing the aircraft, all 4 smoke effects should be moved a bit to the right as that's where the exhaust tips are located on the engines (see pic below).

    [smokesystem]
    smoke.1 = 03.0, -28.50, -1.70, b50_Smoke-x
    smoke.2 = 04.5, -11.50, -2.85, b50_Smoke-x
    smoke.3 = 04.5, 16.80, -2.75, b50_Smoke-x
    smoke.4 = 03.0, 33.80, -1.60, b50_Smoke-x
    smoke.5 = 03.0, -28.50, -1.70, b50_Smoke-crz
    smoke.6 = 04.5, -11.50, -2.85, b50_Smoke-crz
    smoke.7 = 04.5, 16.80, -2.75, b50_Smoke-crz
    smoke.8 = 03.0, 33.80, -1.60, b50_Smoke-crz

    Thanks for the fix... I like the external modelling, I just noticed the Vertavia swap that was posted and agree with why this was done. We all know this is freeware and a work in progress and as such some things will need work, Yes we are grateful for what we get but lets be honest about what it is. I have his C-47 which is outstanding and I know the years of work and updates that went into it. This will be a progression too. I did not mean to offend.

    When developing the smoke for the C-97, I believe HvyEng stated that if it smokes it's wasting fuel. If I'm not mistaken, he was on the KC-97's and stated no smoke when in cruise mode. Hence I developed this gauge that allows heavy smoke on initial full throttle and lighter smoke when in climb mode and no smoke in cruise.

    HvyEng if your around... hope I got that correct its been awhile since I remember that info.

    Regarding the smoke, I would (speculatively) bet that engines like these were purposefully set up to over-fuel under heavy power settings in order to help keep combustion chamber temperatures under control. ( Combined with other systems like water/methanol injection.)

    Lots of smoke at T.O. and climb settings-mixture rich and throttles up. It's only really apparent looking down the length of the trail from front or rear, though. One will also see periodic 'burps' of oil smoke out of most radials when a blorp of the black goo makes it past a valve, and after start as the excess in the lowers burns off. You have to love being oily around radials.
    Looking good!

    Here's a good example of a C-97 restored on takeoff showing max power smoke.

    At 6:40 a better video of max power takeoff... little more smoke and dispersing quickly from turbulence.

    It's the only one flying...

    I never saw the engine smoke effects. Not on take off or cruise. I'm using P3D V3.4 I did see the above entries in the aircraft.cfg file.
