View Full Version : Hypothetical Question: 5 Aircraft

ejoiner
March 27th, 2016, 19:45
Was wondering this question today. if you could only have FIVE aircraft (helicopters included) on your FSX install, which would they be? Im talking about those planes you've had forever (or new) that you fly again and again?

My list would be:

1. Realair Spitfire IX. Old but awesome still.
2. Milviz F-86
3. Warbirdsim P-51 (any flavor. they are all great)
4. Virtavia A-4 Skyhawk
5. FSX default C172

Last one was a hard slot to fill. really needs to be top 10, but I think 5 is an interesting question! No Helo is making my top 5.

1.Real air spitfire
2. Sectionf8 Sabre
3. Skyraider A1H

1. Real Air Spitfire (seems to be popular!)
2. WBS Mustangs
3. QW RJ/146
4. Aerosoft F14
5. Aerosoft Twotter

There are many others that could fill any of the top 5 slots, ask me again tomorrow and the list will probably change, although the RA Spitfire will always be number 1.:adoration:

I agree with Dave (post above).

My choice would just be just choice of today and can be completely different tomorrow. As there are many more than 5 which should have made it to this list, I really can't make the choice. I just too afraid that I will remember another favourite just after I have pressed the "Submit Reply" button.

Exactly! Last night I completely forgot about the VS SBD Dauntless, one of my first payware purchases for FSX and it would have been #2 on the list behind the Gee Bee.

Currently:

1. VRS F-18E Super Hornet TacPack
2. FSBA F-18C Hornet TacPack
3. Dino's F-35A Lightning II TacPack
4. Dino's F-14D Tomcat TacPack

For me there are many other military contenders for 2-5, but only one runaway candidate for number 1. :applause:

1. Majestic Q400. IMHO THE best FSX/P3D aircraft ever produced. Incredible design, innovation and painstaking adherence to uncompromising quality standards.
2. Ant's T-28A Donationware. Best value proposition bar none. I also have the B,C and D models but the A remains my favorite. Large immersion factor. Gold standard design talent.
3. Aerosoft Twin Otter Extended. An absolute homerun for Aerosoft. Extremely well thought out.
4. A2A 182. A little gimmicky imo with all the walkarounds and checks but very well done.
5. Warbirdsim P51. Flying art. A feast for the senses.

It would highly depend on what mood I am in to fly, But at the moment I would say:

1. MJ C-47
2. JF Fokker F27
3. Flight1 DC-2
4. PMDG 737NGX
5. AH B-17

Once I purchased the newly released A2A T-6, I am sure it will climb that ladder, and some other warbirds will make it in there as well.

Of course, this list changes from day to day if not hour to hour.
In no particular order;

- Milviz F-100D
- GAS Monocoupe
- Lionheart Q200
- Virtavia B-1B (Beautiful airplane)
- Iris F-20. I have most of the high end combat jets, but I love that this is so simple to hop in and fly. I just wish the two seat version was accurate (They didn't have that info when they modeled it) and it had a cockpit model more representative, in looks, of the actual plane. But those are nitpicks on my part.
- (My WW2 planes I fly the most) The A2A/AF P-51H and Warbirdsim P-51s.

Those are my five, based on how I count.

Then there are all of Piglet's, Miltons, Dino's, Rob Richardson's, and...

I recently rebuilt FSX and ditched everything (parked in a folder called the Hangar) except a few that have taken my fancy. That really focused my mind on what I really never touched and was not really interested in. So whats left, well there is more than five but these are my favourite 5:

1. Manfred Jahns C-47
2. Real Air Spitfire
3. JBK's Shorts S23
4. Lancaster
5. Grumman Mallard.

but next month it might be different, some might get parked in the Hangar and others resurrected.

March 28th, 2016, 19:11
I'm always switching 'em up. The beauty of FSX is having so many to choose from. I remember the early days of hunting for decent port overs and freeware and settling for lower quality just to have some variety.
We are really fortunate today to have all these outstanding models both free and payware to enjoy with ZERO compromise in most cases. Lucky.
Thank you to ALL who contribute their efforts to this hobby - this pastime - this passion.

When I look back that the last three to five years on the aircraft I spent the most time farting around with (flying, repaints, sound sets, etc.) they would have to be:

AlphaSim / Virtavia

Martin Mars
B-36B Peacemaker (the non jet version)
B-1B Lancer

If I had to chose just one, I'd take the B-1B. It's my best kick the tires and light the fire aircraft that I have. It's sleek, noisy, and fast. Nice sound set with afterburners (gotta have that), and I really like the VC. AND it is also easy on the FPS on my old fart XP Home gaming rig.

It is hard not to include Tim Conrads Porter, Sibwings Bird Dog, WBS P-51, Vertigo Dauntless or the A2A B-17 Fortress in that list. Ask me anytime and I'd probably swap one or the other title from the main list.

WOW, what an interesting thread !!!

As with most, we all have airplanes we fly that we pick for the 'mission of the day' , however based on 'personal' experiences in my flying career, (and absolutely nothing against all the fine airplanes that have been produced by so many people over the years) I will list the five aircraft that I will always make sure are in my hangar - since they have been produced and presented to us in the Flight Sim World !!

1. Piper J-3 Cub.. How things began !! Nice to go back and have a 'reality check' every so often !!

2. Carenado Cessna 182 or Cessna 185

3. LDR Navion.. (However, not necessarily the 300 version !!)

4. Ants T-28A

5. WBS P-51D

To keep with the 'theme' of this thread, there are my five.. However if we where allowed to expand to 5 1/2, then I would include the Milviz B-55 Baron !!! :wavey:

What I think are my top five are much different than the top 5 that I actually spend my time in:

1) DA20-100 Katana 4X by Marcel Felde
(This one would likely top my list no matter how I cut it, with easily more hours flown in it than everything else I own, across all sims, put together. I'd have to delete it and not touch it for a few years to even start to even out the totals, but it's still my regular flyer that I come back to when I'm done with the latest and greatest from whomever.)

2) R22 Beta II by Dreamfoil
(Yes, my second answer is to turn off P3D/FSX and run a different sim. Sorry.)

3) Twin Otter Extended by Aerosoft
(I don't love everything about it, and I wish that the devs would of been flexible in adding some other avionics options, but it's still one of my highest hour flyers.)

4) F/A-18E Superbug X by VRS w/ TacPack
(A pure joy to fly. I'm not even the biggest fan of the actual aircraft, compared to other, more 'historical' military jets, but it's oh-so-glorious to fly, in every respect.)

5) (blank)
(It's a complete toss up between about 10-15 other aircraft here, such as the MV B-55 & 407 & F86, the Carenado F33A & C185F, the RA Legacy 1&2, Aerosoft's F-14, Dino's F-14, Sibwings An2, Majestic'sQ400, Aerosoft's EE Lightning... Those are all pretty much a tie in terms of time spent in them, and I've more than likely forgotten a few in there.)

I largely expect that this list will start to change over the next few months. I have my eye on a few upcoming releases that, if done as well as I suspect they will be, might break into that list over time. Also, the way I've figured out my list, it's worth noting that there are many releases from the last couple of years that I own which I absolutely love, but are absent from the list because for one reason or another I haven't put much time in them yet.

Here's my favorites that i fly often. Not enough $$$ on retirement to get the expensive ones.

1. YC-121 F Connie. Freeware and a beautiful airplane. Turboprops keep the speed up.

2. Skylark- Lionheart makes great planes even though he seems to be retired.

3. Epic Lt - Flew this one around the world in 80 flights. Lionheart again.

4. T-45 - anything Dino makes are outstanding.

5. P2006 Tecam. From Wilco and a really really fun aircraft. Great for sight seeing. Not too fast nor too slow. This one seems to be over looked but is really worth the price.
