I currently have an Intel E6700 Core 2 Duo (2.66 GHz) successfully overclocked to 3.33 GHz with an excellent cpu air cooler. Keeping the same MOBO and therefore cpu socket, I could upgrade to the E8500 Wolfdale @ 3.16 GHz and overclock it close to 4.0 GHZ for not too bad of price (the E8600 is stll too expensive for me). My question is, would this even be worth it as far as performance improvement is concerned within FSX? Roughly what percentage of improvement could I expect?

Thanks!

Mike

You will not see a massive gain in fps....maybe a couple of frames, but every bit helps. You should get lower temps ,however, as you'll be moving from the 65nm chip to the more efficient 45nm.

I run the E8600 stock @ 3.33 which is where you are OCed to now....

So with the E8500 and a slight OC to around 3.6 (sweet spot) then you would be golden...

As far as gain in flight sims, probably not to noticable, but you gain some easier to find smoothness.....
