Here's a screen shot of the hangar that I'm presently modeling. I've added night textures to the walls, floor, and windows. I'm am planning to try to put down two semi-circles of concrete in front of the hangar. One with night texture and the other without. I hope to create an illusion of flood lights shining down onto the tarmac. Stay tuned. Suggestions for how I might better accomplish this effect are welcome. As most of you'll who do scenery object models know, realistic night textures are a weak area in FSX.

This hangar looks quite good.
The semi-circles on the tarmac sounds like an excellent idea, but you'll have to be very carefull when painting them. I don't know much about texture painting, but I can easilly imagine how difficult it will be to give a realistic look to the night lighting on the ground.

I think it is quite easy. The night texture can be made by adding a layer to the day texture which is about 98% black. Then use the eraser with a round spray brush and paint the circles (that's how I'd do it in photoshop). You can then assign the night texture in MCX.

-> The ground must be on a texture that covers the the whole object, of course. I say that because one often spreads ground textures in a repetetive way over the object. It could work on a repeating map, but it might need a bit of twiddling to match the light source to the ground illumination.

Roger-Wilco-66 and Daube.....My experiment just doesn't look right. Way too bright on the tarmac. I believe I will just stick to attaching the fx_landing light effect to the hangar. It provides a more realistic looking light texture on the tarmac. Just requires a lot of time, effort, and patience to get the attach points positioned.

Roger-Wilco-66 I'm sure you remember all my earlier attempts to get decent looking night light effects modeled into my objects. With my limited skills plus limitations with SketchUp, attaching the landing light effect seems to be the way for me.

For any of the rest of you scenery "dabblers" who may be interested, I will get the hangar uploaded here sometimes this week. I also have a closed door version.

I have just uploaded :encouragement: this hangar. Should be available later today. It has night textures along with fx_landing light effects attached to the flood lights. The night texture on the ramp idea didn't work.

Be sure to pay attention to the instructions for placement elevation.
