Not even squirrels or tucans?

Oh No! Not the Tiki Hut!!

(what's a Tiki Hut?)

Moses03
August 17th, 2015, 14:31
Moving on to AGGF Maringe. As already reported, weather is not looking so good.

Moses03
August 17th, 2015, 14:59
Down safe and used all 2448' of the runway. Also knocked down the radio shack antenna. (No injuries were reported).

Moses03
August 18th, 2015, 16:46
Heading up the coast to AGGV Maringe.

Moses03
August 18th, 2015, 17:14
Down on the coral runway safely but not before taking the top off a sno-cone stand. The crew will have to hose off the strawberry syrup from the gear. (The stand had already closed for the day so no one was banged up).

Oh oh. Miss Nellie isn't going to be happy about this...

Moses03
August 19th, 2015, 15:41
Oops. I think Taco said he was going to pay for the damage...

Slotting over to Munda then.

Moses03
August 19th, 2015, 16:17
Made it to Munda okay. Came in a little hot and had to employ a few "S" turns to bleed off some speed. Crew was getting a bit queasy.

Apparently we came in low over the rec area. Post flight inspection revealed a volleyball net caught on the pitot tube. (No one was playing at the time they tell us).

I will say this, the Superfort provides a wonderful view...

To AGGE Ballalae.

Moses03
August 22nd, 2015, 11:18
Into AGGE. Came in a little too low over the officers club observation deck and made them scatter. (Got a stern verbal warning but no one was bruised).

Moses03
August 22nd, 2015, 18:35
Onward to AYBK.

Edit: Had an issue with the yoke connectivity 37 seconds into the takeoff. Restarting.

Moses03
August 22nd, 2015, 19:09
Safe at AYBK.

Moses03
August 22nd, 2015, 19:21
To MKO. ..

Willy
August 22nd, 2015, 19:39
Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure the SBD is parked well away from the runway.

Moses03
August 22nd, 2015, 19:50
Into MKO. Duenna shows it as MKN.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure the SBD is parked well away from the runway.

Good thinking!

Moses03
August 22nd, 2015, 19:58
And on to Rabaul.

Moses03
August 22nd, 2015, 20:23
Finally had a long runway and hit too hard right before the tarmac started. Go figure.

Moses03
August 23rd, 2015, 14:59
To AYTK again.

Moses03
August 23rd, 2015, 15:23
Better use of the designated runway that time.

Moses03
August 23rd, 2015, 15:28
A littler farther to JCB.

Moses03
August 23rd, 2015, 15:58
Down at Jacquinot Bay. This was the first leg that the weather was nice from start to finish.

It's a trap...

Moses03

Heading to GSP.

Moses03
August 24th, 2015, 16:38
Safe into PNG. Finally got to stretch my legs a little bit. Looks like the unsettled weather is in my rear view mirror.

Just wondering if you hit a hard bump over New Britain?

Just wondering if you hit a hard bump over New Britain?

Nope. The only hard bump was my ham-fisted piloting into Rabaul.

Moses03
August 27th, 2015, 15:44
Moving along to Hayfield.

Moses03
August 27th, 2015, 16:45
Never did find Hayfield. Diverting back to Wewak. Have the NDB there tuned in.

Moses03
August 27th, 2015, 17:03
Safely into unscheduled Wewak.

In looking at the Flight Analysis, looks like we zoomed right past it.

Mr Navigator is going to be slinging the prop wash and relative bearing grease for sure.

Ambitious .... coming from me that's huge ... and so is the "29".

Keeping an eye ya ... wondering about an attempt myself.

I'm about to get back out of Santa Ana once again to (hopefully) retrieve my stolen P-40 and ... I'm wondering if Miss Nellie would approve of me packing the P- 40 up in crates and loading it up on the "29' as freight .... then fly the "29" back.

Two for one .... just thinking right now.

It would have to be in Gnoopey's model, running some not so promising descent and landing skills tests right now.

Good Luck Kevin on an awesome effort!

Thanks Austin. Good on you to think about the B-29. Way more fun than all these "little" planes buzzing about.

Back in the saddle. Off to find the needle in the Hayfield...

Moses03
September 1st, 2015, 15:04
Well, that was the hardest leg so far and only 37 miles!

Had trouble finding the field again but finally spotted it in the haze off to port. Made a low pass over and then set up for a normal approach. Ended up landing long to avoid some palms and had to run off the runway with the brakes mashed down as hard as I could to keep from running into more palms.

PRB
September 1st, 2015, 15:14
Cool. I'm headed for the Hayfield myself. We can trade spare parts. See how many of these Boeing bits are interchangeable between the two generations of Fortresses.

Moses03
September 1st, 2015, 16:27
Enjoyed a hearty BBQ lunch courtesy of PRB's B-17 crew that landed earlier. Didn't ask where they got the fresh water buffalo...

Going to push on to WABB with the crate of spare parts they left. I think those were for us?:monkies:

Edit: Ran out of runway and clipped a palm. Restarting

PRB
September 1st, 2015, 16:46
About that water buffalo. Well, when we took off from Naha, it was crossing the runway, see, and... it wasn't our fault, but... Oh, and you're welcome on the crate of spare parts. Hope they're not too heavy...

Moses03
September 1st, 2015, 18:10
Into WABB.

Note: Also attached the FUBAR duenna from the 25 second coconut incident.

A job very well done. Piloting that ship through these small rough airstrips reveals terrific airmanship. Congratulations.
