Stormy weather like everyone has been getting. But this aircraft is pretty stable in the rough stuff. Went up to 12000ft and was getting a crosswind, so back down to 11000ft with a nice little tail wind. With all the clouds, it was hard to see the airstrip, the ndb came in handy. Not too many ndb's in this event, hopefully the weather clears up some.

With the clouds returning, a slow climb to get above them.
Over Kolombagara. A big Japanese build up of troops here, bypassed by the Allies. An Australian coast watcher spotted the wrecked PT109 from on top the mountain.
Approaching Vella Lavella. A well known base of the 214 Black Sheep.
On final for Ballale. Needed to get down pretty low to get under the clouds.

Love that first pic. I always forget how to open the back window so the gunner can get some air!

robert41
August 17th, 2015, 08:42
Shift e opens the front, then push 2 opens the rear, the push 3 opens the rear machine guns. Never know when you might need these.

Weather was clear all the way. But headwinds also. Tried different altitudes, trying to find better speeds, settled on 12000ft. First shot is of the Hollandia area. Second is near the New Guinea coast approaching an island, Yapen?, indicating too far south. Soon after picking up the radio on Biak, confirmed a too far south position. Turned north and made an routine landing.

August 18th, 2015, 05:01

robert41
August 18th, 2015, 11:20
One of the longer flights, but not too bad. Plenty of islands to look at. I split this leg into two parts. First heading to Morotai and it's radio. Then turning for Naha. Clear weather and a headwind all the way. Should of brought more fuel on this one. Landed with 36gal remaining.
Climbing to altitude.
Near Morotai.
Islands in the distance.
Approaching Naha.

robert41
August 18th, 2015, 13:46
Off we go for the last one. WAMH to RP17.

robert41
August 18th, 2015, 15:26
Down at RP17. FSX lock up a few minutes into the flight. One of those 10min wait then it resumes things. Lost connection to duenna. Restarted the flight. And just now my keyboard decides to crap out. Another one installed, seems to be working.
I estimate about 10 minutes of flying before the freeze.

robert41
August 18th, 2015, 15:45
Weather was clear with a little more wind. Mostly a crosswind. Climbed to 12000ft.
Passing (make that) Sarangani Bay.
Landing at Malita.
