Just took off for Auki in the 'Poon. Overcast with plenty of thunder and lightning and the Lockheed Twin is rocking. All in all, a nice day for a flight.

Oh well, it almost worked out. Crashed on short final.

Got a bit confused as to my exact location in the storm and ended up way off shore having gone past the target. Figured it out and flew back from the other direction, but misjudged the terrain and hit the edge of a cliff.

We'll try this again tomorrow...

Milton has released the final Harpoon, so between that and the "crash", I'm doing some "rebuilding" to textures, etc. Hope to be done some time today. That and I have a new B-17F to check out for a possible return trip ride.

Aeroplane Heaven released thier's the other day. Been so busy getting the PV-2 back together that I haven't had time to do anything but look at the pieces & skim the manual

For some silly reason, my FSX SE isn't downloading default Real Wx. I've got a good dsl connection so that's not an issue. I d/l'd, installed and started up FSrealWX Pro and it's reporting no metar activity in the area but from the other guy's reports, that storm is still going on down there.

So, as the song says, do I stay or do I go? Got the 'Poon at the starting line ready to refly the first leg.

Same here Willy. No connection to RW weather.

Thanks for the info Robert... As it seems to be more than just one of us, I'd say the issue is probably with Jeppesen. Taking off using FSrealWX Pro.

"the issue is probably with Jeppesen"
That is what I was thinking also.
Unfortunate I do not have another weather program installed. So I will wait and see what happens tomorrow.

When I got back in to FS, the default real wx was working. Beats me.

Lot's of clouds, turbulence and those sparkly things that light everything up..

First leg complete! Not too bad, the 'Poon could still use some more tweaking though..

And a few Kodaks. Keep in mind that the paint is a work in progress. I've still got to paint the name on the nose and do something about those ugly external tanks.

If it's any consolation Willy I ran into the FSX real weather issue this evening too while flying a hop list on the MP server. It wouldn't connect and kept telling me there was an internet connection error. I did the hop in static weather (fair) in the end.

Thanks Craig & Larry. I'm thinking that Jeppeson was probably hiccuping earlier tonight.

Getting the same default Real Wx issue tonight. Getting ready to head out for AGGF using FSrealWx Pro. I'm still getting the error message with the Duenna though, not sure what's up with that.

The weather is about like it was yesterday. I believe that the proper technical meteorological term for this kind of weather is "sucky".....

Well, that was "interesting"

Nice flight to AGGF. Once I got there and found the field, I swung out to sea to make my approach. Too hot and high so I went around. 2nd attempt, low enough but still to hot. Thinking the 3rd time's the charm, I went around again. This time I throttled way back and in the middle of my turn to final, noticed the ocean was rising. Checked my airspeed and it was a bit low. I jammed the throttles to full, but by then, it was too late and I made a big splash. Back to Auki.

I'll try again here in a little bit. Got a few things to do in the meantime...

(wonder if Milton would make a version of the 'Poon with floaties)

and I made a big splash

Best to make a dramatic entrance as opposed to a meek exit.

Rgr Drama!

As I've got a couple of crashes under my belt now, I think I'm going to just start sightseeing. Besides, there's an Marine encampment on Guadalcanal Island that might need some air support....

AGGF is one of the craziest darn places to land that I've seen. But we made it this time. Coming in from the sea, I've been being too hot and high. I came in from the other direction this time and after brushing the treetops on short final, I got her down and then it was stand on the brakes. I still was going over 50kts when I went past the end of the runway and into the brush. At 40kts, the ocean was coming up fast, so I hit the left brake trying to do a 180. Finally managed to get it stopped.

This one made the R2D start looking good..

Now if I can get it back out of here....

Made it to AGGV with no problems to speak of.

There I was in the Pilot's Lounge (aka "Tiki Hut") enjoying a cold one, when I heard the sound of a pair of R-2800s going to full power. Looked out the window and there was the Harpoon taking off for points unknown. Hope who ever swiped it has the same luck landing it as I've had.

Catching the next flight back to Santa Anna and "Plan SBD"....
