Pretty sure most know Francois Dumas.

The other day we discovered a problem. I tried to make a purchase on his new website , as he had to change it when he moved to Italy.

Seems Internet there is horriable. Anyhow. he can no longer upload to his store . So. That puts him like out of business.

He can get Sat. Internet, but the equipment is expensive, and alas the wife said no on that... LOL Imagine that.

We are trying to help him out as he has added a "Donate Button" to his site .

If ya can, please help . he has spent endless years and time and resorses helping us all out.

Even a buck if thats all that ya got is cool

Thanks from Francois I am sure.

Geeez, thanks Mason.... and THANK YOU who contributed !!!

I hate ASKING..... been self supporting and independent my entire life... but right now I am hitting a wall here. It is because of dwindling income from the FS products, because of the bad infrastructure here in rural Italy... but basically it all started with being FORCED to change my shop and websites by the European Union's ridiculous new tax measures. Now ALL of our existing products are gone too (except from simMarket etc., but that means earning even less!).

I've explained it on my website..... http://fssupport.com/fsaddon/?page_id=2610

MANY THANKS to all support, even moral :-)

(And 'uploading' to the shop is just one problem, I regularly upload and download files with my authors during development, THAT is gone too currently.)

Simon and I currently have FOUR aircraft on the drawing board..... two of which are freeware....... !!

why not just get someone to upload for him

I'd have to burn things on a DVD, send it my mail, have it uploaded.... would work only for finished work, so stop-gap solution. Looking into it. But I need to be able to up- and download stuff that's under development almost every day. :dizzy:

Do you have mobile phone access? Maybe internet access over a 3G / 4G router would be not as costly as a satellite solution.

Cheers,
Mark

Where do you live Francois? If Telecom or Fastweb ADSL lines are too expensive you can try to look for internet via wi-max such as Siportal or, as suggested, with mobile operators. The quality is not excellent, but probably it can be enough for your needs.

Done ! :wavey:

Francois
July 28th, 2015, 06:13
Thanks all !!!

As for other 'access'...... I tried 3G first, but we're in between two antenna masts and I cannot get past 0.7 - 0.8 with the router and receiver put in the attic (highest point). Tried.... failed....

We don't have a fixed line to the house, so ADSL is 'out' too.....

So currently I am stuck to radio internet.... but they don't offer more than 0.5 mbps upload and usually it is less..... hence the problems.

A good Man in need... Stuck by his situation is all... We're gonna get him past this I hope... Once his equipment is bought, sales will keep the monthly fee paid he is sure. but he has to be able to do commerce on the net ...

Done. Good luck Mr. Dumas. (I complain about my internet service as I have only one selection if I want "fast" service, but my plight is not so bad it appears.)

Time to order equipment yet ?

Francois
July 29th, 2015, 23:05
Not yet, still short some 250 for the initial setup... (after paying Paypal their share) .... but getting there it seems !! Great stuff !

Not that it will be anywhere near 'easy' to get things installed here.... the previous system took me 9 weeks between ordering and actually having a guy on the roof ! Hey, this is Italy ! :biggrin-new::biggrin-new:

There ? Close?

Francois
August 1st, 2015, 03:01
Close !! $ 850, now..... Paypal will subtract some 4% I think..... getting closer. Already discussing with two satellite companies. Mind you, this IS Italy, so it will be awhile before I get anything working ... hahaha !!

I am SO grateful for all the incredible kind gifts I received (especially through the SOH community !! )

THANK YOU ALL !!!!

Uh, Probably you live in a remote part of Italy, but this not means that all the other parts of Italy are like yours! :bump:

Francois

I know..... I live in the green heart of Italy. Most things are great here, except the roads, internet and banks. :banghead:

Francois
August 2nd, 2015, 23:28
UPDATE !!!

$ 1000 !!!!

THANK YOU, ALMOST THERE

Since the US$ is now close to the EURO, there is not much to go anymore..... THANK YOU everybody who has helped me, I appreciate it to no end, believe me!

I am now discussing with both the current ISP and two satellite providers to see what is the best way forward, both financially and technically. It still isn't like snap your fingers and there's a dish on the roof..... !! But we'll get there.

Meanwhile, Simon is getting ready for his summer season, which means no development for awhile. He's finished his Waco and sent it to me for further development. And he'll also send me a freeware 'extra' that will be available for all who buy the Waco !

AND..... in my new shop... there's a 25% discount for 65+ MEMBERS on ALL products in it.... and hopefully we'll have ALL products back in a few months thanks to your help !!

Warmest regards,
Francois

That's great news...

It's sorta hard to believe in this day and age a Country can seem so far behind , but I guess in remote regions this happens.

Francois, does that mean that you reached your goal?

I've been away on a long vacation trip and could not or did not want to make financial transactions over unsafe networks. I'm back now and would contribute something, if this is still possible or needed!

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Roger..... still possible. I am some $250 short of the intended goal..... (exchange rates and Paypal fees)... but I'll manage I think. Now discussing with various companies to try and get things sorted.....

Saw you had some great travels and enjoyed your photos :-)

Crowd funding. What a great idea Francois. Would we have to register as a charity to comply with EU law I wonder?
