The only thing I may recommend (and this is the greedy perfectionist in me :) ) is to make the payware pins in the combined map a different color for easy differentiation.

Is there any way to install those freeware packages into some "dummy" folder (first and then copy them one by one to FSX)? I tried to install one package but din't want to install all airports inside it. However there was no option to choose where to install or what to install. I don't like any program to blindly install anything into my FSX - particularly sceneries.

They all go in one specific folder. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ORBX\FTX_GLOBAL\FTX_FTXG_AIRPORTS/SCENERY

Thanks. I just wanted to install some fw sceneries in those packeges. I don't have Orbx main products - yet. Perhaps I don't even buy them for FSX. Have been thinking of moving to P3D.

I use gauges recovery for fsx and it puts back all the smoke effects etc. It's an amazing program. It is free and avail here

Lonewolfee's maps don't show individual airports contained in the ORBX regions, only stand-alone payware and freeware add-ons (from FTX/ORBX). It does however include the free airports released for FTX Global.

I finally got time to go through my freeware map and check it against the PDF's from ORBX.
Please read notes if you are interested.
Links to new KMZ Files and Maps will be at the bottom.

Notes:

My freeware map contains all airports listed on freeware page, not just the global freeware packs.

KSEZ Sedona and KPSP Palm Springs were included in earlier freeware packs. I think they may have been omitted after payware was released for those locations.
I do not show any files for KSEZ in freeware but I do show files for KPSP.
I have decided to leave those on the freeware map for now.

Errors in the PDF:

The following airports are listed in the PDF twice:

The following typos:

Note: My freeware map contains all airports listed on freeware page, not just the global freeware packs.

Notes:

1) With the release of SCA all freeware airports in southern california have been deleted - save for
three around the Yellowstone region. They are O57, O24, KBIH.

2) These airports were added to freeware map: CFC2, CYWJ, CYYQ, KOPF.

3) These airports are indeed freeware airports but are not listed on the PDF(s).

4)This is the confusing part of the maps. I dug down to the bottom of the box but didn't find a
secret decoder ring. Ouija board helped a little.....

---- KLTY and 4U3 are the same airport. KLTY was formerly known as 4U3. Only 4U3 BGL is present in the Global folder, KLTY has been deleted. Only 4U3 is on the PDF. 4U3 is the main identifier on the map.

---- KEDC and 6R4 are the same airport. KEDC was known as 6R4 before it's expansion in 2011. BGL's for both identifiers are present in the Global folder. Both are on the PDF. KEDC is the main identifier on the map.

---- KARW and 73J are the same airport. KARW was formerly known as 73J. BGL's for both are in the Global folder. Both are on the PDF. KARW is the main identifier on the map.

---- KAEJ and 7V1 are the same airport. KAEJ was formerly known as 7V1. BGL's for both are in the Global folder. Both are on the PDF. KAEJ is the main identifier on the map.

---- PHJH and JHM are the same airport. BGL's for both are in the Global folder. Both are on the PDF. PHJH is the main identifier on the map.

---- KBTA and K46 are the same airport. BGL's for both are in the Global folder. Both are on the PDF. KBTA is the main identifier on the map.

* Searching for the secondary identifiers will bring up the main identifiers on the map.

Since I installed ORBX packages (Vector and Central) ALL my older (and newer) effects (lights, smokes, water sprays and so on) were transformed in BLACK clouds and squares .....

Maybe a little late:

Did you enable "DX10 preview" in your FSX settings? So if, this can cause your described issues. You can uncheck the mark. I would recommend to buy Steve Parsons "DX10 Scenery Fixer". It's a cheap and great tool to let FSX work properly in DX10 mode. AI aircraft get back their shadows, for example and performance seems to be more smooth....

I use gauges recovery for fsx and it puts back all the smoke effects etc. It's an amazing program. It is free and avail here

Weird that I run in to your post just now, after being frustrated with the default ac external lights with their black boxes, ever since installing FTX Gobal. Why didn't I run in to this one before beats me, as I certainly have searched for a resolution.

KIGM and UT68 are new. You must disable AEC for KIGM manually. It is not marked on PDF as others are to disable AEC. There are 39 new airports listed plus these 2, so 41 in all despite the stated 38 new airports........

KTEX has been deleted.

CFC2 - Bitumount is not on list anymore although there are 2 .bgl's in the folder. Why? I don't know. After installing the freeware pack the stock CFC2 is no longer visible and a flat texture airport is stuck askew of where the original strip was. Disabling AEC gets the old dirt strip back but the ugly texture of a flat airport is still there and looks horrid and wont go away. I hope it gets fixed. May have something to do with the new CYNR that was put in across the crick.

A stated in the new PDF some entries are denoted as -

Effective (Former) ? Effective ICAO code replaces former code; e.g. KBTA (K46).

There were a number of these in the former packs and by the mention above I thought the Effective ICAO's would in fact replace the (former code), but this is not the case.

All airports listed below are listed on my map with the Effective ICAO. A search of the (former code) will bring up the airport on my maps also.

KAEJ and 7V1 = same airport. BGL's for both are in folder.

KARW and 73J = same airport. BGL's for both are in folder.

As far as I can tell KSZL is part of the North American Freeware Global Pack. It was added back on 9-7-15. Should be in the latest pack. It is in my Freeware Global Airports folder. Don't think it was ever a separate installer.

I downloaded the FTXGLOBAL_NA_Airport.zip which is 20.1 Mb in size. It says I need the FTXORBXLIBS_160528. zip which is 1.3Gb in size. The exe installers only allow the files to be put in the main FSX folder ORBX folder. I am getting full on my FSX drive. Can I install them on another drive somehow or can I move them to another drive after I installed them in FSX ORBX? I know if I do I have to point the Scenery Library to the new path. Thanks, Bob.

The only way this can be done successfully is to install the files and then move the whole ORBX folder to another drive.
Then you can delete the ORBX folder from inside your simulator folder and replace it with a symbolic link to the new location.
I would advise against this if you are not or cannot become fully confident with managing the files and creating a symbolic link.
A Google search for symbolic link should provide numerous guides and if you prefer, software to help you with the process.

I have to report and error with this latest freeware package release from Orbx :

W79 - Tappahannock-Essex County Airport, Tappahannock, VA : should be KSXA ...... about 4 miles away on the same side of the Rappahanncock River.

W79 is a closed airport with Yellow X's on both ends of runway ... as depicted in FSX and has not received the "Orbx Freeware" upgrades ! KSXA is there and does have the upgrades but it does not have a little red balloon on the map.

There was also another one that I found in an earlier package release by Orbx (but I can't remember where), that turned out to be a "Weather
Station" and not an Orbx freeware airport. Maybe the airport was there but I just never took the time to find it. I'm sure it was close to the weather station.
I found it ... the weather station ... by using the default map in FSX. The ICAO code could not be programed into the default FSX GPS unit.
It seems like it was a high Latitude airport .....at the top of Canada or maybe it was Alaska.

Thanks Flameout. I had W79 and KXSA markers in the same place. W79 is on their PDF list and on the Text list of the latest airports added - although it says (closed) next to it on the latter. There are 2 BGL files for W79 in the freeware folder - although no object BGL.
In any case, KXSA is marked correctly. I removed any marker for W79 since it is in fact closed and has no ORBX upgrades to it.
If you find the other airport you mentioned please let me know. I have updated the KMZ files.

My thread was made a Sticky some time ago - for a week. I inquired about it when it's Sticky status ended and here is the explanation.

"Yes there is a reason for un-sticking any thread. They are stickies for a week only. That is protocol. Those that stay stuck have to do with the forum itself. If we didn't do this the stickies would outnumber the regular threads eventually."

I would rather it stay a Sticky also, but I understand where they are coming from.

You are right this doesn't exist in FSX data. I know I made a marker for it in my Plan G Database which I use to create fight plans. I will have a look in FSX - I can make a file for it to show in GPS - just don't know if I did that or not for ENJA. Either way I can send it to you if you'd like. Will make one if I haven't yet. Meanwhile - updates below.

After looking at ENJA more closely, my original reply was not correct. ENJA is a stand-alone freeware airport install and not part of a freeware pack. As such - installing ENJA does add it to FSX database and it does show in GPS.

I'll take a look at the various Flightsim places such as AVSIM, Flightsim, and Simviation and see if I can find it.
It sure is an out-of-the-way airport to do some GA flight siming.

You can extract data from KMZ files but the only information contained in these are Airport name and coordinates. I do not know how you would separate them into country and/or state without much labor.

YoYo - in Google you can create a map of your own by importing any of the KMZ files above into a layer, or layers. Then create another layer of your own airports. That's about the easiest way I know to do it. Then you can download the KMZ file from your map to use in whatever you want.

I did something like this (used orginal FTX map of products + my purchased). Its a lot of better to do flight plan between ORBX airports ect (or buy airport where You have a too big gap :biggrin-new: ).

Hi Aharon,

There are standalone freeware airports such as EDVR Rinteln, ENJA Jan Mayensfield, and CAE3 Campbell River:

.....and of course there are more. These standalone freeware airports can be added to your account and then you can download them via FTX Central (or the new ORBX Central).


Then there is the Global Freeware Pack. This can only be installed as a pack, and you can not choose to install just some airports.

The Global Airport pack airports are "lighter" airport makeovers than the standalone ones, so the size is not very big (roughly 100 MB total), so it is no problem to install the whole package.

I would recommend getting all the freeware airports if you have not yet, as there are some real gems. I particularly like the SPBs created by Larry Robinson.

After you install the freeware package, you can always go in and add an extension of .off to any you do not want to show. Remember that the next update will most likely overwrite any you have disabled though. As an also note, you must remove or disable any airports that you already have that would conflict with the Orbx freeware package if you want them to be the active airport.
