When I noted it is Fun to Fly, that is an understatement! The visual model both VC and External are outstanding but the handling subtleties and control harmony in the FDE are obvious. That coming from help with guys who've actually flown the real MB326 with a lot of hours on the type. Even though I've never flown the real jet, I can literally feel the "translation" they programmed into this model's FDE which from MHO and modest RL fixed wing experience, this "feels like a real aircraft".

gents, I downloaded and flew this airplane this evening and WOW. This is the most "suspension of reality" I have experienced in a few years especially when coupled with TrackIR. I think this might be Dinos best work as well and that is saying something since I have all his stuff. From a pure fun to fly and "real feel", this is it.

I have suspended downloads to apply some corrections - due to a mistake some files that went into the Beta were the wrong ones.
Downloads will resume in few hours with an updated version. Those who have the current version need to delete it and replace it with the new one.

Does anybody knows what is the history behind this Alitalia scheme?

Alitalia ordered four aircraft as trainers in the "D" version; demilitarized and equipped with special instruments to train pilots in preparation for the new jet-liners.

According to Wikipedia.

PLUTO16
January 6th, 2015, 11:18
.....A long long time ago...;)
During early '60, when the first Caravelles entered in service,Alitalia decided to create a specific jet-based school.
The aircraft were based in Brindisi airport, near Lecce-Galatina airbase (this because Italian Air Force 326's were based there,in Lecce, with all their know-how just a few kilometers far).
Their markings were I-AIDA,I-AIDE,I-AIDO,I-AIDU,and they were painted with the same Alitalia livery used on liners (including the beautiful "winged arrow" ).
They suffered an accident during 1966,when I-AIDA crashed, fortunately the crew managed successfully an ejection.
The 326 era finished in 1967,when Alitalia thought that their jet crews had to be trained in aircrafts more similar to a liner....than a fighter.
AIDE,AIDO,AIDU were given to Italian Air Force, for a symbolic price.

Hi Eric,if you refer to external textures,i did it on standard DXT5 with alpha channel.

Bye,

I think my problem is these are 4096x4096 textures. I have a very modern PC, but still use Photoshop 7 because I am expert with it after many years of use. PS7 has its issues on things like file size and even the size of your HD. If its bigger than 1TB, Photoshop 7 thinks its full! (so I save to a lower sized partition.) In any case, I have always been happy with 2048x skins personally.

Eric-- I'm with ya.... I've always LOVED this airplane, and have the books to prove it. Interesting point...I served with the current head of the ADF (Australian Defense Force) in the desert about 10 years ago, and before he was RAAF (and he ended up as head of the RAAF, I might add!), he was...RAN! About a 99% chance he flew these Aussie navy Macchis...

Dino Cattaneo

The VC provided has an Aeritalia 8-105-924 gunsight (which is also functional - a small switch on the right side turns on the lamp)... there were 3 different gunsights I know of:
- The Aeritalia one
- The Thomson R322Z(M)
- The Thomson CSF RD21

I’m having so much fun with the Impala, thank you Dino for sharing the beta model with us!

One of the old SAAF Atlas Impala II bases is AFB Bloemfontain (FABL) and luckily for us virtual flyers there is a superb FABL scenery available for FSX made by Frits Beyer. He has even made the city itself.
I have done some more work on a quick and dirty Impala II repaint as it looked during the mid/late 1980s when they were used during the border war flying out of the SAAF bases in South West Africa (Namibia). I have pictures showing 1082 in the revetments at Ondangwa air base, but since they carried no decals beside the number it is for me impossible to tell if it is from 4 Sqn or 8 Sqn, which were the two operational Impala II squadrons.

Of particular interest with this scheme compared to the default Impala scheme as included in the pack:

-No national decals
-Brown wing fences
-Painted gunbay panel (not bare metal)
-Light blue grey underside
-Camouflage extend to the extreme nose
