First the DH125, now the C310 ... great foray into some lesser known non-military a/c ... our hobby needs modelers like you ... Bravo Rob:applause: With a wealth of civilian and a few military schemes out there, I hope she gets painted up lots. Just a lovely jewel of a plane, Rob!

Between the '125 and now Bill's L24b, I'm really enjoying the small biz/transport jet type. Makes me wonder if Rob is on a civ/biz a/c kick at the moment ... much good would come of that, would it not? Cessna Citation II, Lockheed JetstarII, Dassault Falcon 10 ...

Anyway, Rob - thanks for the '310. Lovely little time capsule, she is ...

Love the period ad, with those colours and styles there's almost a 'Thunderbirds' feel to it - just need the pilots to look a little more like marionettes . . .

Thank you Mr. Richardson!

Back in my youth the Cessna dealer I worked for had that tacky Honey/Temple Gold scheme as their demonstrator. Needless to say, the ramp staff had a different description of the colours than the PR guys... But I still fell in love with the B & C models. None of us were happy when Cessna went to the 'zoomy' canted, pointed tanks. Between the sharp points and knife-like seams on the tanks (at head level) it became a safety hazard, esp. when fueling at night or in a rush. :dizzy:

Quiz: What's the easiest way to tell the difference between the "B" and "C" models?

Quiz: What's the easiest way to tell the difference between the "B" and "C" models?

They both had the upright fin so I think it may be something to do with the small set of vents on the engine nacelles.

I just dug out logbook number one to refresh my memory as to why this airplane scared me so much the first time I flew it. :dizzy:

It was December 22, 1975, and I had a total time of 55.9 hours and had gotten my Private license 10 days earlier. I got a chance for an hour of dual in N6086, a C-310, not even an A or a B, an ex military C-310. Wasn't going to turn the chance down, even though all my time was in 150's and 172's. I knew absolutely nothing.

I still remember the runway lights going by twice as fast as anything I'd ever seen, but by the end of the hour I had partially caught up and I had that one hour of multi engine time. :untroubled: Then it broke and was grounded.

On September 2, 1976, I got to fly it again. I now had 300 hours and was single engine Commercial and Instrument rated and a Flight Instructor. I remember that it was still broken and my instructor, who was also the examiner, had to replace some tubing before it would go. On September 7, I had 9.7 hours of multi time, including that first scary hour and had my Multi Engine Rating. That ability to log twin time got my flying career going.

Thanks so so much for this one, Rob. :applause: It means a lot to me.

Cheers,
steve

Engine nacelles ran all the way over the wing to the trailing edge?

Bingo!

The change from O-470M to IO-470D engines necessitated/allowed the change. The "B" had the twin stacks as modeled by Rob. The "C" had them collected into a single rectangular exhaust that led back to the training edge. If you go seeking pics look for old ones as a lot of early 310s were modified with after-market systems or more extensive changes ( like baggage locker nacelles and under-wing exhausts)

So, what's up with the name "Blue Canoe"? Seen this one Saturday at Lee Bottom Airfield. It wasn't very blue.
The Official Air Force U-3A was the version that Peter has done for Rob's 310B. It was the nickname given to it by pilots when they were first delivered. The one in your photo appears to be someones attempt at an Air Force version. I think the Navy had a version that was all white, but the Air Force was deep blue, the Army had some that were a light blue and the AF Reserves also had the light blue version.

I have Rob's 310B and 310C versions of this Cessna. One was done in 2013 and then this new one 310Q came out. Is the difference appreciable.

Would like to just combine one Cessna 310 folder and integrate both 310b and 310q into one folder.

Edit:

I noticed in the Cessna 310B in texture.1 folder there is an aircraft.cfg file and the header reads:

fltsim.0]
title=Cessna 310 L <<<<<< Was there ever an L model available?
sim=Cessna 310 L

It is extremely unlikely that you will be able to do that as there are probably too many differences between the models. For a start the air files and cfg file performance values would be different to reflect the different engines and aerodynamics and any changes to the mapping would mean that textures for one version won't fit the other.

If you were just trying to save space then you wouldn't have saved that much anyway even if it were possible.

Barry
I've tried several but if you noticed in the main texture folder there are two prop textures. . .one is "310_prop2" which is a prop disc and I assume is called my the mdl file. No matter what FSX prop blur I added, it made no difference and I suspect the prop disc overrides it.

falcon409
September 29th, 2014, 10:37
Just tried something I hadn't thought of before. I took the 310_prop2.dds file out and replaced the 310_prop with one of Banana Bobs for the Spartan Exec. All you get is a rotating disc, no indication of a prop blur at all and from the VC even the disc is invisible so you see nothing from inside the airplane. Looks like what is supplied is all that will work.

robcarrich
September 29th, 2014, 11:41
There are two prop discs so as to give a strobe effect at low revs and no strobe at high revs.
I feel that's a bit more realistic than the default textures, in reality the prop disc has no strobe effect at any revs.
I can easily make them more transparent if that's the consensus of opinion.
That can, shortly, be incorporated into the next small update.

Actually I have seen that as well, however I rarely hand fly the aircraft for any long distances. Most of my flights are Cross Country with the AP handling the flight. For the times I have flown it by hand, ever so slight pressure on the stick brings it back to straight and level but I'm also usually preparing for landing so it's never a great concern.

Since my previous post, I've downloaded and installed the G-AVZS texture. This aircraft was actually destroyed in a landing accident at Elstree, UK, when it veered to the right on the approach. All four lucky occupants walked away from the crash.

So maybe Rob's model is correct???

The G-AVZS texture was the first hit I got at Flightsim.com when I searched under 'FSX General Aircraft' for 'Watkins'. It was uploaded a couple of days ago.

Peter only appears to upload to Flightsim.com at the moment. Previously, he used Britsim but, obviously, that's impossible until the site reappears.

Best,
Myles

It is a nice paint, I've looked over at flightsim and had no luck. Hope it can be tracked down.

That's Peter's G-AVZS blue/white paint pimped by me - using MS Paint! I need to finish it and am now off on a business trip. Peter - hope you don't mind my posting the screenie or sharing the repaint based on yours with others requesting it.

I just checked Robert's website and it shows that Version 3 was released yesterday.

The website states:"
Updates include prop discs more transparent, rotary switches animated, altitude calibration knob modelled,

Some alterations to gauge animations, minor texture improvements inside and out"

Downloading now!

Thanks for the heads up. Downloaded late last night. Tried it out on a short flight this morning. Much, much improved prop spin textures, Thanks a bunch Rob. The little 310 is just getting better and better.

Would like to see the prop spinners done in chrome. I tried to add a chrome effect to the spinners and it didn't work.

Thanks, Rob!

Swept tailfin? Rounded nose?

Swept tailfin started with the 310D; the 310C had upgraded 265 h.p. engines.

Hi All, I hope I didn't read something miss in Rob's read me's, but I cannot for the life of me get a pilot showing in either his 310Q or the 310B. My planes just don't have pilots. Is there a key I need to activate or something? Thanks.

The pilot is a permanent part of the airplane as far as I know, nothing special has to be done to have him show. I'd say try reinstalling.

Just uploaded six new paints for Rob's wonderful 310B. One is N364AP which won Reserve Grand Champion Contemporary at EAA Oshkosh in 1993. Four of them are based on the magazine or sales brochure someone posted earlier in this thread. Typical 1950s style... love 'em or hate 'em! The last one (for now!) is OO-SED wearing the Sabena Air livery (flight school?). I hope you like them...enjoy!

Mike

Here's the Sabena livery and N364AP... more pics to follow:http://i1160.photobucket.com/albums/q495/P-40B/C310N364AP_zps48bc9437.jpg

Hello,

With the 310B the pilot disappears when we shut down rhe engines. The pilot comes back when we start the engines. A nice annimation effect.

I have again varied Peter Watkins' so very nice G-reg design, just changing colors with DXTbmp > GIMP > MS Paint . .

Hello,

I have modified the scrape contact points in ordeer to have appropriate attitude on ground after a belly landing.

; SCRAPES
point.3= 2, 0.20,-16.50, -0.50, 1800, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 5, 0, 0
point.4= 2, 0.20, 16.50, -0.50, 1800, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 6, 0, 0
point.5= 2, -5.04, 0.00, -1.70, 1800, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 9, 0, 0
point.6= 2, 2.40, 0.00, -1.90, 1800, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 4, 0, 0

Sure we should try to acoid this situation but sooner or later we may be forced to a belly landing. Several C310B has survived after such event. So I hope such happy end if one day or another one forgot to descend the landing gear.

Hello,

When one start the engines of the C310B the smoke effect appears in front of the engine cowling. To have the smoke effect at the exhaust output one have to introducce the following modifications (Do not forget to save the original aircraft.cfg file umder another name)

[GeneralEngineData]
engine_type = 0 ; 0=Piston, 1=Jet, 2=None, 3=Helo-Turbine, 4=Rocket, 5=Turboprop
Engine.0 = -2.0, -5.5, 0.0 ; (feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum
Engine.1 = -2.0, 5.5, 0.0 ; (feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum
fuel_flow_scalar= 0.9 ; Fuel flow scalar
min_throttle_limit = 0.0; ; Minimum percent throttle. Generally negative for turbine reverser

As you can see I have modified the engines location. On my computer these modifications have no eefect on the dynamic behavior of the airplane during flight.

Have a good day

Has anyone replaced the prop disc textures with a more transparent one?

The model is one of the best freeware models I've ever downloaded and also one of my favorites.

Barry

MIKEW has prop disks in his beautiful 310Q Sky King repaint, I'm using them for all 310Q paints now.
Perhaps they would work for you in the 310B model if he doesn't have them in his 310B paints.

No worries! Share away - they look good! Have not been near a computer for a week but have now finished the kitchen installation and will get back to painting once more. Looks like there are a lot of US paints now, which allows me to get on with other nationalities. I will however paint one US example, as I have already promised it to a previous pilot of the aircraft.

Hello,

This screen shot ewas taken with the option "ignore crashes and damage". If one choose the options "detect crashes and damage" and "aircraft stress cause damage" the reedsult after a belly landing wwill be more like that:

http://www.fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/images/2014/10/05/zpS1D.jpg

WE can seee a real crash of a C310B at the end of the following web page:
