View Full Version : FS9 forum truncated to two pages?

Hi,

Is the FS9 forum here supposed to be truncated to the last two pages with only 43 threads available for browsing? That is what I see today. I don't remember it being like that. Did I miss an announcement, or is my memory finally failing?

I am logged in, and I do mean browsing not searching.

I tried to find an older thread last night by scrolling and couldn't get there. Resetting the display options doesn't work for me. I can reset to anything and it will reset itself to 1 month, which currently equals 2 pages.

It's happened to me, too.
I haven't changed anything.....

EDIT: It hasn't happened on The Dark Side.

Same here - only two pages. Page one of two, page two of two, end of forum.

Thanks for all responses. I guess we can now leave the team at SOH to react to the confirmed problem.

Site is working fine for me in Chrome, IE 9 and Firefox 27.0.

What browsers are you using.

I would suggest logging out deleting cookies and then logging back in.

For what it is worth IE 11 has know issues with our version of vBulletin that are not expected to be fixed as it is no longer being developed. Any fixes would have to come from IE as they fix their broken browser code.

The example of this is special characters in title lines of threads make the thread unviewable in IE11. The browser will tell you the link is bad.

Same problem here. Using Firefox 30.0. Till 4 weeks ago IE9 / IE10. Again, same problem.

Cheers,

Using FF 30 here no problems.

Log out

Delete cookies and temp internet files

Log back in and test.

Firefox 30 good here as well

Try this

Go to your settings page upper right hand corner

Go to general options

Set the "Default Thread Age Cut Off:" to something other than 1 month.

Now check to see what you get.

Also you could force a page refresh and see if that fixes the issue by doing a ctrl F5 a few times. That might clear out a bad cookie that could be causing the issue.

Chrome: I just went to my Settings/General Settings and changed the default to 100 days. I now show many pages.

That didn't work in Firefox 30, but...

But that worked!

Curious that the issue only affected this forum. The others that I tried before did this fix all showed many pages of threads in the usual way.

I went back into Settings and changed my setting back to Forum Default, which is where it was before, and once again only two pages show up.

It would appear that the forum default has somehow changed. I suppose someone who knows the innards of the forum software could fix this so it works properly for folks who leave their setting at Forum Default.

Agreed. It seems to be an issue with this forum's default.

My iPad uses none of the above mentioned browsers and I still have the problem so I doubt it is a browser problem.

I've also logged out and deleted cookies and nothing changed.

Note: the problem is not truncated at 2 pages, it is truncated at 1 month. FSX forums have the same problem, although there are about 9 pages viewable, the time period is the default of 1 month. The 1 month is unchangeable. You can select any time limitation but when you ask to view the last page it goes right back to the 1 month default.

It is now clear the initial 'problem' was administrator reduction of each 'forum default' to one month, without prior warning to logged in users who allow SOH to control bandwidth consumed, by selecting 'forum default' as 'their' choice.

For me Milton's instructions work, and make sense, now that the source of the 'problem' has been identified.

If they do not seem to work for others I warn that 'visitors' who do not log in are now restricted to one month of threads. Visitors were always limited to the originally much longer 'forum default' for the obvious reason that the 'user choice' settings page cannot be read in relation to a 'visitor' whose identity and choice cannot be known. For me the new setting of my choice 'sticks' after logging in (again) to force it to be read.

This seems to be a sensible way to conserve bandwidth. I agree that no administrator action is required, but it would have been a good idea to notify SOH users in advance that the forum defaults were about to change.

Unfortunately, still not true for everyone, my Safari and IE11.

Aside from logging out/in and deleting cookies, again just now, what else can be done?
