I've always liked this design and it's great to know you're the one developing it for FSX. You've made it quite clear how much you appreciate this design and I can't imagine anyone else making this as a result. Someday, maybe you'll have the time to give us a quality AMX as well. Thanks for the previews.

Dino, I'm sure your MB326 will become a classic like the T-45 :applause:

Having actually flown in one must give you a very special incentive!

...actually it is quite hard for me to keep on testing / tweaking the S-3B Viking and refrain from working on the MB.326 (which can be easily turned into a 326K and a 339)...

Hi Dino,
This is great news. Here in South Africa, the MB326 is known as the Impala, & was used by the South African Air Force as a trainer.
At our local Air Force base in Cape Town, Ysterplaat (FAYP) we have a Virtual Aviation club (Cape Virtual) & we have built a twin seater simulator, using an actual fuselage, sticks, peddles etc. We are using an old model in FS9, so your plane will be a great upgrade for us.
Thanks, in anticipation,

Robin

Thanks for your support as usual.

With more than 650 aicrafts built for operators in 14 countries (South Africa, Australia and Brazil being the largest users outside Italy) and several category world records, the MB.326 is really one of the most important machines of his type ever and yes, there are or have been several non-military operators, including Alitalia, the U.S.National Test Pilot School and few privately-owned aicrafts such as the one of Mr.Catellani which is the one I have had te pleasure to ride (and drive, albeit for just few minutes) - needless to say is the one pictured in the images and will be the base model.

With more than 20 variants built, I will be unable to support them all... but the plan would be as follows:
- Start with MB.326E as base model (this model has 6 hard points for weapons...Tacpack support is planned)
- Turn it into a MB.326K single seater light attack a/c...
- Turn it into an MB.339A (by merging it with a project I have never completed)...wings and landing gears are almost identical...
In the meantime, I'll try to fit other versions (early an unarmed versions, export versions etc.etc.)

M.346 is not in my to-do list, although I love the A/C (actually I have designed some minor electronic parts of the real deal :-) ) but we'll see in future.

As for the S-3, it is a much more complex machine, obviously... and as I explained I am in the very tedious process of system debugging. As it is it is almost ready for VFR flights...

Well, the S-3 Viking is my top priority... but it is a quite complex aircraft and I have to confess that the system development / testing is quite tedious - hence I started the MB.326 project.

At the moment the S-3 is on track for a completion of a significant test version by the end of the month (although Tacpack functionalities may be limited / absent in that build...).

The MB.326 is far from being complete - although the external model of the 326E is in a very good shape - but the project scope is yet to be defined. An ambitious (but quite attracting) target would be to replicate the whole family of these trainers, including light attack version and the MB339. But that would be roughly 30 models...

Is this a possible repaint for this bird? I think the AT-26 is a MB.326 built by licence in Brasil, correct? Or there are other local modifications?
9102

Dino Cattaneo
June 9th, 2014, 07:52
Yeah, the AT-26 is a variant of the Aermacchi MB.326 - more precisely it is equivalent to the MB.326G afaik.

My base model will be an MB.326E, so avionics and some details may be different... but again, there are have been more than 25 variants built... so I need to make a choice. MB.326E is the variant I had the pleasure to fly in, and therefore we will be my base model.
Which in itself is quite similar to the MB.326G and H (at least after some avionic upgrades).

Anyway I envision having repaints for all the major operators (Brazil, Australia, South Africa) - but the aicraft has been operated in more than 15 nations...

Dino Cattaneo

Yes - it is the only airworthy MB.326 in Europe, owned by Mr. Renzo Catellani in Reggio Emilia (and it the bird on my profile picture of course)!

Good news Dino and Thank You for the beta of Viking!

Do You think about TacPack with MB.326 too (gun? unguided rockets)?

Dino Cattaneo
June 9th, 2014, 23:45
The Tacpack strategy for the MB.326 is still TBD but it will be implemented.

The MB.326E only carried a limited selection of gunpods, dumb bombs and rockets, but other versions like the MB.326K had a broader selection of weapons and also had A-A R550 Magic missiles (which will be supported by Tacpack soon)...

By the way, the general idea of the project is to provide liveries (and eventually specific models) for all the major operators.
The base version, as I said, is the MB.326E which is a version for weapons training used only by the Italian Air Force - only 12 were built.
I have plans to provide at least one livery for all the major operators (Italy, Australia, South Africa, Brazil) and maybe several Others. Given the large number of variants it may be impossible for me to cover all of them with accurate cockpit and visul models - I will limit my choice to 3-4 visual models and few cockpit variants (if any at all).

Here is from Wikipedia the list of the users...

Guys,

as I said is way too early to talk about repaints. Also as, as I said, there are plans to support several additional liveries right from the initial package - there should be at least one livery from all the major operators.
Impala MK.II (i.e. MB.326K) is a model I am strongly considering.

@Mirage3
Seems you have posted an actual photo of the screen (I think it is the first time in years I see that!)... did you know you can get an image of your screen by pressing Print Screen and then dumping the image to any image editor?

No, that is not "me"... I've kept my generic pilot model (and face texture) in the backseat...
By the way, I am beginning to consider spending another full month of salary for another ride.
Beware: jet rides are addictive.
Here is another pic with the markings of the 61mo Stormo - with the iconing Penguin (symbolizing student pilots which are yet not able to fly).
The external model is in a very good shape - but I'll switch back to the Viking and will work on it until its completion (not far away!)...

Single seater ??
Now that's interesting. I'm not such a fan of the MB.326, because in my eyes, it doesn't have the same level of "sex-appeal" than a T-33 for example.
But the single seat version is a totally different story :redfire: It looks really good.
Also, I believe this is the plane that I used to see (and hear....BANG) flying over my village in Italy many years ago (I was in a military training area, Val Tanaro).

Great news! The MK.326K or Impala II as it was called in the SAAF is a much welcome addition to the FS hangar. The Impala IIs combat record from the "bush war" in SWA/Angola is very interesting reading. The Impala even managed a few a2a kills when they proved to be the perfect answer for countering the Mi-24.

IPMS South Africa used to have an very extensive SAAF aircraft knowledge section, this included a very well written and informative section about the Impala I/II. I have a paper copy of it, but cannot find the web site anymore. Brig Gen. Dick Lords books about the SAAF during the border war are also great information sources.

A little OT...
In order to get the samples from the sound package (which will be managed by Serge - who also provided the excellent sounds of many other projects), I had the need to edit the GoPro recordings of my flight on the 326. The file size was cut to a manageable dimension so I put it on youtube:

Here is the link - I though this may be interesting:

Quick update... the VC is almost done, and the external model just needs some additional ordnance models (still missing)... Alessandro Barbarini of SSW did a very good job improving / remaking the external textures, and the flight models is at a very good point. I have no idea when it will be released but it is in a pretty good shape.

Scenery is a 2m/pixel photoreal scenery of Italy which can be found with Google - I am not linking it as it does not seem to be the will of the author. There is also some autogen coverage (separate files) and simple (but aligned with photoscenery) airports. Quality is variable, but vistas are spectacular. Images were taken on the Italy/Switzerland border, not far from Venegono Airport (where the Aermacchi factory is...)

Dino Cattaneo
January 6th, 2015, 23:46
All, thanks for the appreciation.

I will keep track of the bugs and fixes on my blog. As exception to the rule two quick answers:

- Gun effect not working... actually I could not replicate the issue. It happened on another station to me, but reloading the weapons fixed it...

- CRS/HDG knobs not working. This seems to be a FSX-engine problem in detecting mouse areas... meaning that the code seems correct, and they work as intended in P3dV2... I will try to fix it, but that is a nasty bug.

Aside, please refrain from releasing repaints for the time being... please wait for the v1.0.

Hi guys! Sorry to bring back this old topic, but maybe it will give some help to me or others with the same situation:
I installed the MB326 in p3dv4.1 but as natural, no sounds from "dsd_fsx_xml_sound.gau". So i went ahead and installed "dsd_p3d_xml_config_x64.dll", renamed it to "dsd_fsx_xml_sound.gau" (to preserve the entry´s in panel.cfg) but still no sounds. What i´m doing wrong?

There is this other DLL:
- mb326.dll in modules folder. Will this not work with 64 bits? If so, mr. Cataneo needs to update it too? DLL´s are compiled in 32/64 bits.

I installed the TACKPACK panel.cfg but i´m unable to fire any weapons. I have TP 64bits installed. The weapons appears in the plane, and the weapons panel iluminates accordingly, but the fire button does nothing.

Any help with the above situations would be great!
Thanks!

Dino Cattaneo
January 15th, 2018, 14:16
@flaviossa

Certain parts of the MB-326 are indeed not compatible with P3Dv4 - unfortunately, there are no plans to upgrade them at the moment, but:

- You should be able to have sounds by replacing the dll, not sure why it is not working.

- As for Tacpack, please see the readme instructions...the aircraft by default is configured for VACMI, the readme provides instructions on how to configure for Tacpack use (works fine in P3Dv4)

vora
January 15th, 2018, 15:12
Maybe change the suffix ".gau" back to ".dll" in the 64bit-Version. So you should have a "dsd_fsx_xml_sound.dll" in the modules folder.
At least that's the way I got the sound in my Turbine Duke to work.
