I was checking on Avsim.ru and saw that 4 days ago a new version (portover) of Igor Suprunov's Yak-40 has been uploaded. I have run a number of test flights with it and it is magnificent! You can get it here: http://www.avsimrus.com/f/fsx-aircrafts-79/

Agreed! I bought the original v2 for FS9 years ago. It was, and still is, a top-notch creation. There are just a few very minor functionality issues in FSX (a few missing clickspots, etc), but nothing that spoils the package. Kudos to the gentleman who took the effort to put together this port-over. As an interesting bonus, I get far better frames with the Yak in FSX than I ever did in FS9. I'm soooo happy to have this bird back!!

Fly it in Igor Suprunov's memory...

In fairness to Andrey Vinogradov it is much more than a port over, he has completely rebuilt the gauges
which are at the heart of its excellence and I agree, it is an absolute work of art.

Any idea how to get the landing lights to come on/retract/extend? I have tried everything & can't get them to come on.

Try this.

Click on Caution panel or Shift+7 for the 2D lighting panel.
Left hand bank of five switches.
Turn on nav lights, two right hand switches up.
Extend landing lights, centre switch down.
Left most two switches, left for the left light and right for the right.

I'm normally pretty savy when it comes to figuring out websites. But for the life of me, I haven't sorted out how to download this baby. Some help for an old simmer would be greatly appreciated.

Open the link in the OP.
Scroll down to the Yak 40 for fsx entry.
Click on the link at the bottom right, just above
the blue line at the top of the next entry.

On the page you will then see, look in the green box
in the centre above the blue line and click on
the HTTP EU Direct link.

This link should take you straight to the download.

Thanks, got it working! I was moving the switches bass-ackwards... lol

It seem there is a little more work to be done on the VC lighting, there are some fairly strange
errors when the lighting is turned on.
However, to me this is a minor detail for two reasons, there has been a massive amount of work
put into getting the model this far and it is offered free...
and I don't fly at night.

Excellent package indeed! I just miss a few more camera views in the virtual cockpit - gone to read FSX SDK to learn how to create them!

Thanks to Andrey Vinogradov!

I saw those errors but they are minor. They seem like texture issues. I also noticed that the interior windscreen blanks out to a solid color when there is rainfall turned on(weather). Otherwise, it's a fun and great model!

You can almost certainly fix that with this fix from Flight 1.
http://www.flight1software.com/fsxtools/f1_fsx_vcrainfix.exe

If you can access the 30 VCRain*****.bmp textures from Fs9, you will have raindrops.

Also, if you haven't already discovered this, if you either scroll through the cockpit views until you reach the 2D view
or press Shift+1 and then return to the VC view, many more features will be activated.

Very sorry to bring back so old topic, but i have a question that i donīt see the answer around other places. I downloaded the file "Yak-40-4-2.zip" from avsim.rus
The instalation is pretty easy BUT there is a folder called "Yak-40" with two subfolders "Sound" and "Config"
There is no help file to install the plane, so if someone else is using the plane, where i put this folder "Yak-40"?

Thanks and sorry again to bring back this old topic :encouragement:

Drawing from Tu-134 experience, probably in the main FSX directory.

Bjoern is right. I have installed the Yak in my system and I found the folder in the main directory.

I used to fly this aircraft a lot in FS9. It seems to work well in FSX and P3D v2.5 on my system. To make things easier to Westerners like myself, I discovered how to change the gauge labels to English: open the 2D panel with Shift+1 and click on the v speeds placard above the ASI. The vc gauge labelling will now be changed.
Hope this will be useful to someone!

That's a really neat feature to have in a russian aircraft. Should make it easier to fly.

Remember that you can download the manual (English/Russian). The Supronov Yak-40's manual is the best manual of a Russian addon.

In FSX it's working properly, but in P3D I have no clickspot working, are they usable for you?

No, sorry I should have been clearer, I don't have clickspots in P3D, but I use a combination of the pop-up 2D panels and my hardware to control the aircraft. Also the Ground Service module isn't working correctly, I seem to remember you need the rear airstairs open for that (switches on co-pilot's side) which I can't get to work in P3D.

Thank you thefrog, I'll try something like that too, this bird is a unique simulation, very well done!

The lack of clickspots i think is because itīs a fs9 compiled model that has no dedicated VC model. Itīs common to all fs9 models, none has clickspots in p3d http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/images/smilies/encouragement.png
Thanks for the manual ce-zeta! Much needed.

The file structure of this aircraft is possibly unique.
As far as I can tell, each component of the VC is
a gauge.
It was years ahead of its time when first sold and in
many ways still is, having features that are still seen
as new in the latest FSX native aircraft.
In short, it's absolutely brilliant.

Amazing piece of software... it's a shame that's totally mute for me... But, does it mean that someone could eventually transform it in a true fsx (so even P3D) aircraft?

Having installed it, I find it to be very sedate and ladylike. One tends to think Russian = Butch. Well I do! Also, I couldn't get it to exceed 270kts, even with three burning. I've downloaded the manual, and will scrutinise it carefully..

Den.

Having digested at least part of the manual, I'm assured that the speed I obtained was correct. No wonder I couldn't catch those AI C130's in Iraq.
