Description: Piloto Azul Mitsubishi Ki-51 Sonia skinpack by UncleTgt
These are a collection of repaints for Piloto Azul's Ki-51 Sonia for CFS 2.
The aircraft are:
6th Sentai, southern China, early 1944
6th Hikotai, Philippines, 1945
26th Sentai, Papua New Guinea, late 1943
27th Sentai, Malaya, early 1942
45th Dokuritsu Chutai, Philippines, 1945
73rd Dokuritsu Chutai, Java, early 1942
83rd Dokuritsu Chutai, Philippines, 1945
unknown unit, Papua New Guinea, early 1944
Also includes, updated kelti-style prop & exhaust effects added to the dp. A small eyepoint change made to the aircraft.cfg, & the prop spin animation increased. I've deshined the model slightly, & made it transparent so I could remove the crew & rear MG to make a kamikaze version (see separate upload).
To install, unzip the download and place your chosen files in the correct folder(s) for the Ki-51 Sonia within the aircraft folder in your CFS2 Main Directory. Back up any originals & replace them with these.
Thanks to
Piloto Azul for a great aircraft. An oldie, but a goodie.
Kelti for inspiring exhaust effects & prop disks.
Martin Wright for Mdlmat & DXTbmp programmes.

Description: Piloto Azul Mitsubishi Ki-51 Sonia kamikaze by UncleTgt
This is a conversion of Piloto Azul's Ki-51 Sonia for CFS 2. Following the guidelines by Pen32win, it turns the aircraft into an AI
kamikaze that can be used in missions. The repaint is of an unknown "tokko" unit, Okinawa 1945.
The changes made were:
The aircraft model was rendered transparent, so the crew & rear MG would not show up.
The dp was modified to add kelti exhaust effects, & the rear MG was removed. The aircraft category was changed to 4. You lose the true
dive bomb vertical dive but retain a moderately steep dive onto target, but gain the ability to programme a low level torpedo bomb
approach on target vessels.
The payloads were changed to offer the Mission writer two different attack profiles.
kamikaze - hi
This mimics a hi level/ dive bomb approach & uses Shadow Wolf's kamikaze bomb from his Satan's Kittens VF19 campaign (available at Sim-
Outhouse)
kamikaze - low
This uses Pen32win's skip bomb mod (AF_ddandhf.zip, B25 skip bomb aircraft, available at Sim-Outhouse) to mimic a low level approach
Notes for mission builders:
See Pen32win's AF_Kamikaze pack for how to build events & triggers for a kamikaze mission. All I've done is to use his later skip bomb-
torpedo to allow some variety to kamikaze attack profiles.
For the "lo" approach the change in weapon means the drop trigger becomes "attack with torpedoes", & the mission trigger becomes
"torpedoes = 0" instead of "bombs = 0", but otherwise operates exactly as Pen32win advises.
When invoking the "engine fire" event, I've found that particularly with the low approach profile it's better to delay the event by a
second or two, but otherwise Pen32win's notes are spot on.
I've included a rough & ready sample mission using stock ships as targets. You can just sit & watch the attack develop. It's better with
non-stock ships, as the dp files of the stockers aren't great for torpedo hits or late war flak, but it will give you an idea of how
things are put together.
To install, copy your Ki51 Sonia aircraft & call it Ki-51 Sonia_Kamikaze. Unzip this download and place your chosen files in the correct
folder(s) for the Ki-51 Sonia_kamikaze within the aircraft folder in your CFS2 Main Directory. Back up any originals & replace them with
these.

Kelti for inspiring exhaust effects & prop disks.
Martin Wright for Mdlmat & DXTbmp programmes.
Pen32win for his AF_Kamikaze pack & the skip bomb-torpedo, allowing us to mimic some real world tactics in spite of the limitations of
the CFS 2 game engine.

UncleTgt,

Many thanks! This aircraft is often forgotten, lounging around in the library. Thanks for bringing her to our collective attention with your efforts!

A Great BIG THANK YOU Uncle Tgt!!!!

All,

If you are going to d/l the BPF missions and campaigns, you might as well go ahead and d/l Uncle Tgt's kamikazes.

The appropriate skinned aircraft are going to be attacking your ships.
