Installed it and like it. A couple new options. Also....a bit more tweeking is available too. I have found using this for my antialiasing has improved my FPS even before the new version.

Can or will the Sweet FX Configurator verify which version of the basic SWEETFX is installed?

I installed the newer SWEETFX over the older one and it looks like BOTH version are visable in the directory. The older one is above the Configurator while the newer one in below the
Configurator. I tried to remove the older one and install the newer one within the configurator directory. Now I wonder how or if you can verify what version of the Sweet FX is running
when you use or have the configurator open?

So you've kicked your AA settings out of NvidiaInspector and let SweetFX handle AA? Interesting.

Well, regarding the AA thing, it of course works better than something else because SFX applies less AA to the image than, say FSX or NvidiaInsprector.
Bit of a dumb moment from me.

Gave it a try in DX9 and DX10 to test the AA thing, but it's no keeper.

In my case I don't use SweetFX AA sharpness. I use RadeonPro for my ATI card AA setting. Similar to Nvidia Inspector for Nvidia cards. I only use the shaders in SweetFX.

Without SweetFX shaders...

I have tried both ways and honestly......I have much better frame rates with sharp objects using SweetFx for my antialiasing. I have a mid level Readon card and a mid level PC so we may be on different roads but I truly believe everyone should experiment to their likings.

Mr Ted, I appreciated this, I really do. If only I had seen this before I had d/l just the 1.5.1 files, my fsx perhaps would not of CTD.

I had the older version of this installed with the GUI and it all worked pretty well. Now I wonder if this thing was really meant just for ATI boards only as I have Nvidia. In trying to configure
the newer base 1.5.1 it somehow caused some bad ju-jus ergo a FSX CTD which resuleted in *.* everything in my FSX folder. I have FSX back and will have to rebuild (read add) all addons
previously installed. Some already are back and ask for a repair or reinstal - so thats good.

As an aside * I have no other means to convey this message to you as you have elected to remove your PM options both here and at FLIGHTSIM, and you also ignore my emails.
I know the MODS are reading this and I hope they will cut me some slack here due to the restrictive/limited means of communications that I have here.

I would like to publicly apologize for the last PM I sent you and wish to make amends here and start over. You have been most helpful to me in the past and I deeply appreciate
all the knowledge I have gained from you related with FSX material. I know all this goes public but again I send you emails and I know you either delete or ignore them.
I am not "hell-bent" on giving anyone trouble as one mod here iterated previously. So again - I am deeply sorry for anything I said in the past that disturbed you.

If you want, pls email me as I am interested in your response. Thanks and have a blessed day. :salute:

I have no idea what any of the setting in this thing do but gave it a try with the default settings anyway and my framerates went from a steady 30 fps without it to 9 fps with it :(
Guess I wont be using it for the time being unless someone can advise on how best to set it up in terms a 5 year old can understand :)

Gave this a try but seems to have no effect at all.

I followed the install instructions (put all the files into the FSX base folder) and I'm pretty sure it is running as it produces a log file and pressing PAUSE causes FSX to stutter a bit as sweetfx tries to reload the shaders.

However, changing some of the settings in the settings file makes no difference (I would have loved to see FSX in cartoon mode).

Maybe I need to update directx? Or maybe I need to turn off AA in FSX?

EDIT: After giving this another go, yes, you need to turn AA off in FSX for this to work.

Dangerous....put this in your main FSX folder and let me know how it works for you. Trust me when I say...my system is very modest....and I know there are many better ones out there so these settings should be helpful. they have really made my sim a bit nicer if I do say so myself. Oh....make sure you have anti aliasing turned off in sim.

I gave it a try thanks but no difference unfortunately.
I made sure that no AA was already enabled by disabling my Nvidea Inspector profile first but my framerates just go through the floor with this thing.
I removed it an re enabled Nvidea Inspector and I'm back to a buttery smooth 30 FPS.

I guess my system just doesn't like it. Oh well no big loss, my FSX runs and looks great without it so I'm not too fussed.
Thanks for trying.

Mostly gamers use it for the shaders improvements. Same with me, I don't use the AA settings just the shaders.

Ok....just to be clear....when I say make sure your anti-aliasing is turned off....I mean in sim itself under options/settings/display on the same page you set your frame rates. I don't use Nvidea inspector but I run my Radeon anti-aliasing mode topped out.

I wonder if you were to delete it, would it leave any residual files that would later corrupt FSX?

From what I discern, it lists the changes/files that you select and injects shader files as selected.

I found out why this slaughters my FPS.

I have a second monitor, 20in @ 1680x1050 that I use to drag things like GPS, radio stack ATC ect. to, it don't affect the FPS normally but with SweetFX enabled its unplayable.
If I disable the second monitor my FPS is back up to 30 with SweetFX enabled.

I'm not interested in it for the AA as Nvidia Inspector does an excellent job of that but the shaders would be nice to play with more.
TuFun, what shaders and settings are you using ? I'd like to try them as a starting point.

Whether I keep using this really depends on if I can live without the second monitor really.

I have that inspector too, and managed to turn on the inspector AA and a few other thing while I shut SweetFX completly off and the
FSX displays a bit sharper and tad better scenery and aircraft display.

I can get that polished look with the inspector set just right

I did a 8X Anisotropic filtering setting.

This is an excellent starting point I found at Obrx when first working with SweetFX. Start with Vibrance and Curves at 35 as Andy suggested. Check out his pics. Turn everything else off. Your results may vary. Adjust up or down until the desired look. Later you can test other options. Try Cartoon... it's interesting!

The only thing and I was cautioned about using the SweetFX is that it has a tendency to inject files on your FSX folders that may and I say MAY tend to corrupt you FSX and then you might
end up with a FSX going CTD. I think that is why I had to reinstall my FSX -
It was the last thing I did to FSX when my FSX went Bye Bye....coincidence - I think not.

Thanks TuFun, will give that a try.

FSX68, don't worry I'm using SweetFX with the GUI and the remove button does a good job of cleaning the files out. I'm also pretty familiar with FSX's file structure so can usually sort any problems out fairly quickly without having to resort to re installing.

Also heres my Nvidia Inspector settings

Antialiasing
Antialiasing - Mode = Overide any application settings
Antialiasing - Setting = AA_MODE_METHOD_SUPERCAA_64X_4v12
Antialiasing - Transparancy Supersampling = 2x Sparse Grid Supersampling
NVIDIA Predefined FXAA Usage = Disallowed

Texture Filtering
Anisotropic filtering mode = User-defined / Off
Anisotropic filtering setting = 16x
Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias = Clamp
Texture filtering - Quality = High quality
Texture filtering - Trilinear optimization = Off

Common
Maximum pre-rendered frames = 1
Power managment mode = Prefer maximum performance
Vertical Sync = 1/2 Refresh Rate

In FSX Graphics

Target frame rate = 30
Filtering = Trilinear
Anti-aliasing = unticked

It runs buttery smooth with no shimmers, blurries or stutters at a solid 30fps
Not bad for an old system :)

I use the same settings with the same results in P3D 1.4

why do I need this again?

The sharpening for ATI cards is top notch.....if I jack up the sharpening via the ATI panel and in sim....I take a major hit on frames.......with all those dropped down and the sharpening jacked up on there........no hit at all.

It comes in handy with different game profiles such as COD, MOH, Tomb Raider, ROF... etc that handle shaders differently without changing the GUI setting. Simple.

hmm - I fly RoF, DCS FSX and use Railworks 2014 occasionally and the settings I use work across the board...so yes its very simple - no need for a 3rd party prog that negatively affects my AA/AF and FPS at all...

maybe it is useful for those with AMD and ATI hardware...
