I had 3 rainy days during my summer holidays, During which I found interrestin French textures for P-47 on Virtual Corsicaria, a French site dedicated to Aviation and Corsica.

Those various textures were mainly for payware models, and I decided to transfer them onto a freeware model, i.e. Christoph Malinowski's nice Thunderbolts. I then found other models on Wings Palette, and the game ended with 19 new textures, 16 personnal repaints and 3 conversions of repaints by J.M. MANGIAVACCA for Tom Kohler's FS2004 Republic P47....

6 Razorbacks, mainly P-47D-22-RE

7 bubble canopy models, from P-47D-25-RE to P-47D-28-RA

and 6 P-47D-30 with dorsal fin

French air force used many hundreds of P-47's during WWII, originally based in Corsica along with the USAAF ( watch carefully William Wyler's "Thunderbolt"..) and then during the whole air campaign against Germany in straffing and ground unit support.

If any of you is interested, I'll upload them in 3 batches during next week-end.

Bonjour François!

Very nice collection of Free French Air Force repaints!

Do upload them please, they "fera du bien" (from the little French language that I learnt this summer while visiting l'Ile du Guadeloupe and the Cote d'Azur, please forgive the faulty spelling! :redf:) to our CFS2 WWII virtual museum.

They also remind me of the beautiful P-47D bubbletop I saw at the Le Bourget Musee de L'Air three years ago.

Mercì beaucoup!

...which makes these beauties missing essentials to our Euro-Med ops. Due to logistical considerations, it seems that the FFAF flew more P-47's than P-51's in the latter years of the war. I think they even preferred the beasty Jug over the sexy Stang. ;)

Standing by for the upload...and thank you. :salute:

For what concerns US aircrafts, French pilots only flew P-40 as real fighters.

They were allowed P-47 and P-39 for close support and bombing missions, and the only P-51's and P-38's the French flew were recco versions.

It is estimated that around 450 P-47 were used by the French Air Force

In a second time, P-47's were used for straffing also during war in Algeria between 1954 and 1962.

Fde_Bressy,

Outstanding work, thank you so much! :ernae:

I thought I'd do a little something with these textures...
and also changed the gunsight on the panel... that square one JUST does not
look right for a P-47....
