Hi all,
Just thought I'd give everyone a peek at Rob Richardson's next release. This is my first paint, a Armee De L'Air example. Rob and I are working on a paintkit that will be available when the model is released.

It is a great looking airplane. I like the shorter nose of the older Q version. downloading now.

Cessna produced their 310 series from 1954 to 1980. They produced a lot of variants with the R version (already covered by payware) being built in the greatest numbers. The Q version is a close second in production numbers and having the freeware Q is a welcomed addition to the FSX family. :applause:

All the credit for this gift goes to Rob. I merely helped with the paintkit (mainly by nagging and mild criticism!) and yes I did try to get Rob to do an earlier version. To be fair this was originally a 310L but Rob liked the all-black G-IMLI so much that he added the raised roof and top window. Personally I would have preferred the 310L but Rob is the creator!
I have uploaded the Armee De L'Air paint to FlightSim (available now). I am working on a few others but don't want to rush them!

cheers, Pete W

Decided to try out the New Cessna 310Q with a flight from Plum Island to Block Island (about 95nm). Flying direct GPS took me over Boston Logan and then on to Block Island State. Nice little trip and the Cessna 310 is beautiful (especially in black).

That sounds interesting as I have already written some custom xml for the 310 props, it also uses two sets of textures the "prop blurred" having no strobe effect.

I look forward to trying your new textures.

Very cool! That's the second kind of plane I ever piloted.

And what's really cool is that the plane belonged to one of the guys at subLogic (shame on anyone who who doesn't know why that's cool), who had come to visit us at Compute! Magazine and show us Flight Assignment: ATP.

I have finally got it downloaded. Every time I tried before, a lot of other people must have been downloading at the same time as it estimated over an hour download time. I figured if I just waited, that would change. It did.

Thanks Robert for the airplane. I especially like that it came with an AI version. I have been hoping for an AI version because there were three of them based at one of the airports where I used to keep an airplane. Now I can set up an AI 310 at that airport.

Fine looking plane and paints. Have always thought this was the sexiest twin - seeing them IRL as a kid - and I still fly in FSX my very first payware plane, the Flight1 Cessna 310L. Have the Milviz 310 but the appearance with the long snoot ruins the aesthetics for me.

Here is a very retro paint scheme someone might try that just exudes late 50's early 60's:

The early 310's look pretty cool I think.
New fin, tip tanks, no rear window and the exhausts exiting above the wing.
Any takers?

I'd be happy to take one, Sir - as you say, there are often significant changes over the life of a type and all too often it is the later models that developers focus on. It would sure be nice to have a 50s edition 310 if you we're inclined to produce one, Rob. :wiggle:

Well, Rob, that would be nothing short of outstanding. Absolutely have been beguiled by the lines of the older - any short nosed - 310. The long nosed ones (I have the Milviz) leave me cold and look like a different airplane. It - "feels good but just too ugly" - to fly (reminds one of .. lol). It stays in the hangar.

The "B" would be great of course.

http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/photos/9/7/9/2488979.jpg

The later Song Bird I think was a "D" which was a crossover in looks as it had the early rounded nose with swept rudder but older "tuna" tip tanks.

Probably my personal favorites are ones with the aerodynamic tanks up to before they added the rear window and larger cabin, like the Dreamfleet "Charley Mike" 310L (my first payware ever).

I'd love to see one of those Rob! I got my multi engine rating in one in 1976 when I had maybe 150 hours or so. I was sooooo far behind that thing with an image in my brain of hanging on to the yoke with my hands while my feet trailed out behind! :dizzy: Sky King I wasn't!

Yes Rob, would love some more versions of the 310.

The Sky King show used two different aircraft. The original Song Bird was a Cessna T-50 Bobcat, (Kirby Grant's personal aircraft!) which was replaced by the Cessna 310B in 1956, when the T-50 became unsafe to fly. These two aircraft are reported to be the only aircraft used by the two fan sites for the Sky King series. However, one of the 2011 Oshkosh visiting aircraft was a restored 1960 C-310D, N6817T, serial #39117, painted as the Song Bird III, and stated to be the last aircraft used in the show. My memory is rather foggy, so I don't remember if there were two different 310s, though I do remember the T-50 as well as a 310. I was to young to notice the difference between a B and a D back then. Since the page that had most of the shows available for viewing some years ago has been taken down, we can't check them for sure. The entire series is now available for purchase from the website mentioned below. I was there in 2011 and got a couple photos of this plane. Here is a web page showing it. http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/aviation/news/best-aircraft-of-oshkosh-air-show-2011-cessna-310d-sky-king#slide-5

Also, most sites say there were 136 shows filmed, with #73-136 being lost in a fire, Gloria Winters (Penny Marshall) and Ron Hagerthy (Clipper) both stated in 2008 that only 72 shows were filmed. http://skyking.com/
